We hear so much about eating fish or taking fish oil supplements for our health.

Do you ever feel like you are searching for that right amount?

Either you are on the verge of dehydration or you think you are drowning.

So how much water do you really need?

That is a question that has a lot of different answers dependent on who is talking.

The standard for years was 8 cups of liquid per person. Now the hype is all about- half of your body weight in ounces.

What is the correct answer?

There is a lot that comes into play when we are talking about how much water we truly need.
  • Are we sweating and moving around or just sitting on the couch?
  • Are we eating a lot of fruit and vegetables high in water content or drinking coffee, tea and other products that tend to have a diuretic effect?
  • Is it cold outside or hot and humid?
Maybe the question should not be how much we drink per day. But what does water do for our body?
Did you know?
  • Our body is made up of 70% water
  • Our blood is 85% water
  • Our brain is 80% water
  • Our muscles are 75% water
  • Our cells are 90% water
Man! We are made up of a lot of water!!. How do we know that we are getting enough water to support our body systems?
  • Thirst can be an indication, but many say by the time you are thirsty you are dehydrated.
  • Checking urine and making sure it is a pale yellow is a great sign you are getting enough water (unless you are taking B vitamins, which tend to turn your urine a bright yellow).
  • If you are urinating every few hours (7-8 times per day) that is a good sign that you are hydrated.
So the question is "Are you getting enough water each day"?
