Antiques appraiser Mark Moran of Iola, Wisconsin, will host a free Antiques Roadshow-style event that is open to the entire community. Come watch your friends and neighbors find out what their family heirlooms are worth.

Peeps-o-rama Diorama Contest

We provide Peeps, a box, glue, paper, markers, scissors, and 2 hours.
You use Peeps to create a diorama of a scene from a book.
Everybody votes to pick the top three Peep-le's Choice award-winning dioramas.

Lydia told me to Illusions of Fate by Kiersten White, and I'm afraid she has me completely pegged. Thinking heroines! Tormented heroes! Magic! Thinly-veiled Victorian England! Romance! Danger! Everything all wrapped up in one book! My life wasn't changed after reading this book, but my winter afternoon was a lot cozier.
Dark Shimmer by Donna Jo Napoli takes a well-known fairy tale (I won't spoil which one) and strips all the magic out...which is what made it entirely so magical for me. All of the fairy godmothers and evil stepmothers are explained away with historical, logical, and oh-so-cleverly woven plots. It was a joy to watch each fairy tale twist unfold.
Winter seems like a good time to rewatch some old favorites, so I'm considering the official confirmation of the Netflix Gilmore Girls reboot a good excuse to re-watch some Gilmore Girls. I've also got Sense and Sensibility (with the fantastic Alan Rickman) in my queue.
