Dear <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>,

January is almost over. Unbelievable. So, we thought we’d get the first newsletter for this year out before it’s too late. How has 2016 been so far for you? We hope good!

We’re already looking ahead and have the next calendar season in sight, so read on for information on 2017 calendars plus background on changes to the UK Calvendo production system.

Best wishes from
Your CALVENDO Team

P.S.: Have you seen the “CALVENDO self-publishers in conversation” page on our website where we collect our regular blog interviews? Be curious and meet some of the people using our platform.

Looking ahead: 2017 is basically round the corner ...

2016 might just have started but in calendar terms, we’re already a year ahead: You might have noticed that the layout system for new projects has been changed to the calendar year for 2017 which means:

  • If you start a new calendar project now, it'll have 2017 dates.

  • You’ll find projects that you’ve started last year but haven’t submitted to the jury yet in your account (under “Projects in progress”) with 2017 dates.

  • Should you make any changes (via the blue pen button) to projects that have already been published and re-submit them to the jury, they’ll be published with 2017 dates and a new ISBN once the jury has released them again.

In spring, we’ll begin updating your 2016 projects for them to be published with 2017 dates and a new ISBN for the next calendar season. Please don’t adjust dates manually and make sure that you’ve clicked the “flexible calendar grid” option for your calendars which ensures that they’ll be part of this update.

UK production issues explained

Calvendo operates on the basis of an innovative print-on-demand system in combination with traditional publishing and book retail. What goes on behind the scenes in order to make sure that users can create and publish calendars with ISBNs free of charge plus for them to be listed in central databases and be available to order on retail sites is quite complex. And we don’t want to bore you with the ins and outs of the publishing business and the many players involved.

We’re mentioning it here, however, because we have over the past few weeks experienced production and delivery issues in the UK that are related to the complexity of the industry we’re operating in. Orders from UK retailers couldn’t be processed as swiftly as they usually are, and we very much understand that this has disgruntled everyone who has been affected.

So, the good news is that the issues have been sorted, production arrangements adjusted and Calvendo is, as before, processing orders and producing your calendars. As a result of the changes, delivery times are, in general, longer now and exceed the delivery time of approximately one week that applied before. Calvendo is working on a solution for the next calendar season to reduce delivery times again and optimise the system for the UK.
