And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

ANNUAL MEETING

This meeting is an opportunity to reflect on the previous year, and look ahead into the next. Whether you are brand new to our community, or if you've been around since the beginning, we value your presence and input.

At this meeting we will review the finances for 2015 and look at the 2016 budget. We will cover key milestones in this last year and look at upcoming ones. We will vote for new board members, and we will eat together.

*** Soup provided. Please bring salad, sides, bread, drinks, & desserts to share. ***

Also this Sunday, January 31 - at 3:30pm (@ Caffe Vita)

COMMUNITY ARCHITECTS MEETING

If you are interested in helping plan and shape community-building and activities at COTA, this is a great place to get plugged in.

Community Architects help plan retreats, coordinate meals after worship, and other overall community-enhancing programmatic things throughout the year.

Please join us this Sunday, Jan 31st across the street at Caffé Vita to get involved.

PLEDGE PARTY

You are invited to join your fellow COTAns for our first Annual Pledge Drive kick-off event on Saturday, February 13th, at 8pm at the Fremont Abbey.

With our recently released financial goals in hand, the focus of this event will be to celebrate with one another as we collectively add our individual and anonymous pledges together and celebrate the act of giving, no matter the amount, to SHOW OUR LOVE FOR COTA.

Is this event for me? If you answer YES to any of the following, then this event is just for you!
  • Have you financially supported COTA in the past?
  • Would you like to support COTA to meet this year's financial goals?
  • Would you like to bask in the energized feeling of your community pledging along side one another?
  • Do you like a good party with yummy treats and sensational music with friends and family?
But I don't have a lot to pledge...
If you can pledge $5 a month, HEY THAT'S GREAT! That may be the candle budget for the year! Or added up with two others pledging the same, you might help support someone on our staff attend a retreat. Or added to 60 other pledges we may support new programming or increased benefits for our staff or building projects that have been waiting to be funded!!

Do I need to bring money to the event?
This is a free event and you will only be asked to write down your commitment for the year. No one will stop you from donating or writing a check to fulfill your pledge, however. And it might not hurt to bring some cash because you never know what fun COTA-created (and Cupid-approved) games you'll want to opt in to.

To sum up: Everyone is welcome and we need your support to meet our goals!

Love,
The COTA Board

Ash Wednesday Liturgy

February 10, 7pm
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, and falls 40 days before Easter (Sundays don’t count). The name “Ash Wednesday” comes from the imposition of ashes, a traditional Jewish sign of penitence. Our ashes are made from palms from last year’s Palm Sunday service, and burned by members of our community. The ash is then mixed with anointing oil, and applied to the foreheads of those who participate in the Ash Wednesday liturgy. The ashes themselves are a symbol of our mortality.

COTA's Ash Wednesday liturgy takes place on February 10th at 7pm in the Great Hall. Lent services begin the following Sunday, February 14th.

Tran, 33, and Jeannine L. Zapata, 45, who were murdered in Tuesday night's brutal shootings in the area known as the Jungle, under I-5 south of downtown.
