"Our Secret"
Rev. Andrew Millard, Guest Minister
Is every religion built around some deep and powerful insight? Is it only shared with true believers upon their initiation into the mystery? If so, what is that for Unitarian Universalism? And when do we get told about it? At great personal risk of getting into trouble for letting the cat out of the bag, Andrew will enlighten us with our great Unitarian Universalist secret!
Rev. Andrew Clive Millard has served as minister to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Peninsula in Newport News since 2010. Born in England, he came to the United States to be a physicist and instead re-discovered religion. Andrew lives in Yorktown with Allison and their threen-age daughter, Olivia.
This is a pulpit-exchange Sunday. Our minister, Rev. Dave Johnson, will be speaking at the UU Fellowship in Newport News today.

Rev. Dave Johnson, Interim Minister
"Before You Hang Up: The Healing Power of Laughter ”
Today’s topic is anything but frivolous. It is the key to congregational vitality, and to the ministerial search process. The over-arching question is: In what spirit will you work together with your settled minister? How will you value a divergence of experiences, preferences, and hopes? How will you foster healthy balancing: Between vision and pragmatism? Between tasks and relationships? Between personal preferences and shared goals? Between internal vitality and engaging the world? Over-arching these dimensions is the question: How shall we balance seriousness and playfulness? This service will offer an opportunity to lighten up. (Fair warning: Those who are suffering from “hardening of the categories” may prefer to be elsewhere on this Sunday.) Special music by a little-known composer (P.D.Q. Bach) presented by WUU singers (the Okay Chorale) and Dave Robbins. Our professorial source of humor-insights will be Larry Ventis.
Share the Plate for February will go to the Greater Williamsburg Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (NFBV).
Letters containing instructions on how to nominate someone to be on the Ministerial Search Committee have been mailed out to WUU voting members. Be on the look out and don't forget to get your nominations in. As a reminder a voting member is defined as having signed the WUU Membership Book and having a current pledge in place. If you would like to check your membership status please contact Suzanne Huddleston at suzanne@wuu.org or 757-220-6830.
Food For FISH (Our local community food & clothing pantry)
The winter months are here!
Let's bring some soups and filling, hearty foods!
Please remember to check those dates. Thank you for your generosity!
WUU Youth ❤’s FISH
Each month we will ask you to bring a different food item for the families in Williamsburg who are in need. We will name a "food of the month" as a suggestion. The FISH wagon is by the front door of the sanctuary and there will be a green bucket there as well for you (the children and youth) to put your donations in! This month we will collect cans of soup.
Place items in the green bucket by the front door of the sanctuary and thank you!
Valentine's Day is kick-off day for WUU's annual pledge drive. Plan on staying after both services Sunday, Feb. 14, for a short information session with food (snacks in case you want to have a Valentine's lunch out later) and for your pledging envelope.
Do you want to pledge that Sunday? You will be able to with your smart phone or using our laptops--or by filling out the paper form. Or you can pledge in the next month--each of you will have a contact person on the Stewardship Team to answer questions.
More than 25 percent of our congregation will be canvassed face-to-face. In some cases, this canvass will occur in your home or community location. You will be called or emailed to set up your appointments.
Children, teens, and parents are invited to a "family focus" potluck Friday, Feb. 19, at 6. Linda, Trenna, Helen, and Nancy will make lasagna for our families, and several parents (and stewardship team) will talk about their own experiences with pledging. You can pledge that night or later--and we hope for 100 percent participation by our families at whatever level they can give. (Families--please bring side dishes or desserts.)
We are supporting our current WUU programs and exciting new initiatives made possible by our new building, which will open some time next fall. Join us for more information.

Congregational Workshop
Saturday January 30, 2016, 9:15am-12:30pm
“The Best of Who We Are”
At this important congregational workshop we will take a key step on our journey towards calling a new minister. By considering the elements that attracted each of us to WUU and what keeps us here, we will share our ideas on how we can bring out the best of who we are as a congregation. We want our new minister to understand and appreciate us at our best. We need your help! Please join us on Saturday January 30!

It's Time to Think Yard Sale! Ruth Hopkinson is encouraging you to identify furniture items you wish to donate to our Annual Yard Sale. Although the Yard Sale doesn't occur until May 20/21, WUU has the opportunity to reap ongoing profits from the sale of furniture items beginning this month and throughout the year. Early pick-up can be arranged for your unused, unwanted furniture items if they are in good to excellent condition. Ruth urges you to call her at 565-3298 (home) or 879-9080 (cell) or email ruthhop46@gmail.com for further information.
