Nearing completion!

Workers began applying th first coat of surface material to courts this past Friday at the Rev. Leroy C. Cox Tennis Complex. This will be followed by additional coats, including the "SWU Blue" playing surface and lines, then the nets. A scoreboard is being installed as well. 
The USTA-designed six-court facility will serve as "home court" for the Warriors tennis teams and become a welcome addition to the local tennis community.

Jazz flautist in free concert Feb. 8

Galen Abdur-Razzaq, an extraordinary flautist from Montclair, N.J.,  possesses a keen ability to transform an audience with the smooth, rich sound of his flute. He'll be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Newton Hobson auditorium. Read more>>

The University Singers are pictured singing in The Bethlehem Chapel at The Washington National Cathedral for the National Conference On Ministry To The Armed Forces (NCMAF). They were in our nation’s capitol Jan. 12 and 13, where they also sang for the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE). Click here for their travel schedule.

Courtney Jones (second from right), regional director of Enactus, visited SWU’s Central campus last week as students began organizing their projects for a regional competition taking place April 1 in Atlanta. Pictured left of Jones is Dr. Raul Chavez of SWU’s business faculty and faculty advisor for SWU Enactus. Enactus is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. Faculty and staff are invited to join pastors and lay leaders for Generosity Encounter, a highly interactive teaching and sharing seminar Feb. 20 in the Founders on the Central campus. Generosity Encounter is sponsored by the Department of Generosity of The Wesleyan Church and the South Carolina District
According to Buddy Rampey, S.C. district superintendent, Generosity Encounter has been “highly well received” in other places where it has taken place. Generosity Encounter starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. There is a $20 donation, which will include a box lunch. For details, view this video and download this flyer. Personnel Announcements

 
Please join us in congratulating Shannon Brooks on her appointment as director of library services following a search to fill this vacancy. Since July, Shannon has been serving as interim director; her appointment as director is effective Feb. 1. Prior to that, Shannon served as assistant director (2013-2015). She holds a master of library and information science (University of South Carolina) and master of science in personnel services (Bob Jones University).
 
Debbie Eller takes on a new assignment at SWU as administrative assistant  for the Physical Plant beginning Feb. 1. Debbie is transitioning after serving 3-1/2 years as secretary for Counseling and Health Services. Congratulations!
 
Keshia Kelly joined SWU’s Greenville regional learning center as part-time site assistant-Greenville Jan. 25. Keshia holds a BA in psychology from Coastal Carolina University. She is employed full-time at SHARE Head Start in Greenville as a family advocate.
 
Erica Caldwell has been hired as an Advisor for TRIO Student Support Services and begins Feb. 1. She received her BA in English at USC-Upstate and her MA in human resources development from Webster University. Most recently she has been employed at USC Upstate, first as an administrative specialist in the registrar’s office, then as a human resources specialist.

Renovation to benefit missions

United Wesleyan Church in Easley has partnered with SWU and Habitat For Missions (HFM) to support a full-time missionary couple serving in Vienna, Austria, who are recent graduates of SWU.
 United purchased a home in Central and will remodel it for resale. Ninety percent of the profits will go toward supporting the McEuens and 10 percent will go toward start-up capital for the next HFM project.
