Latest data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre show 18 new cases for week 5-2016, bringing the total to 54 HIV new notifications for 2016 to date.


 
1st All-Ireland Conference for People living with HIV

The conference will include talks on collaborative research, immune response and therapy, HIV transmission criminalisation, and clinical information for stigma reduction. New Report and Monitoring Tool: HIV, HCV, TB and Harm Reduction in Prisons

First ever HIV-positive to HIV-positive liver transplant to take place in a move that will 'give thousands a new chance at life'

HIV-positive patients in the U.S. will now be able to donate their organs to save the lives of others. Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore has been given the green light to become the first center in the country to perform HIV-positive to HIV-positive transplants.

Gilead Seeks Approval of Truvada as PrEP in Europe

Gilead Sciences has filed for approval of Truvada as pre-exposure prophylaxis with the European Medicines Agency (EMA). If validated by the EMA, PrEP will be approved for use along with safer sex practices in all 28 member states of the European Union.

Polish investigators report that there is a significant relationship between HIV viral load and the risk of neurosyphilis. Incidence of the sexually transmitted infection syphilis is high among patients with HIV, most especially among men who have sex with men, and incidence has risen since 2000.
