CAPE BIRD CLUB OUTING UPDATE                               February 2016

Please note the change in meeting place and time for this Sunday's Outing

OUTING TO WEST COAST NATIONAL PARK

Sun 14 February
Leaders: Vernon Head
076 569 1389 or  vhjarch@kingsley.co.za
 and Mel Tripp 083 461 4365 or tripp@iburst.co.za

The WCNP gates open at 7, so we will meet at 7.30  at GEELBEK MANOR HOUSE PARKING LOT

Catching the tides at the right time is crucial for optimal viewing of waders at Langebaan Lagoon, so we need to make an early start. After meeting at 06h30 we will go straight to Seeberg Hide then back to Geelbek. It will be neap tide, but let’s hope there will be some tidal activity and it is not one of those days when the tide hardly moves! We will visit Abrahamskraal in the afternoon after lunch. We suggest you bring a picnic lunch and plan for a full day’s outing. Please try to share transport and remember to take your Wild Card so that you do not have to pay the entrance fee of R42.

LIFT OFFERED/ WANTED

I have received an offer of or request for a lift to the West Coast National Park for Sunday's outing.
If anyone needs a lift to share petrol costs (or can offer one from the Harfield Village area) please email me at
cdleslie@kingsley.co.za  and I will put you in touch.

Petition to Protect the Philippi Horticultural Area

The Philippi Horticultural Area is under threat from various types of development.
Thanks to Mel Tripp for alerting me to this petition.

This is an area close to the heart of many Cape Bird Club members as we regularly run outings to this quiet productive birding location.
So not just for the long term security of the aquifer and food supply, but the birds, their habitats and other wildlife that also share these.

Please
