CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
The Sit&Tell Project is looking for storytellers and designer/artists to participate in community-based art project that seeks to connect communities through pulling up a chair and sharing stories of positivity about Strong Women of Toledo.
Following the immensely successful You Are Here Toledo Project, AIGA Toledo presents our latest collaborative venture. Through a partnership with MTS Seating and The Arts Commission, AIGA Toledo proudly announces The Sit&Tell Project, a multi-participatory community project that uses the metaphor of a chair as an invitation for friendship and communication. The Sit&Tell Project will collect and visualize 100 stories as told by Toledo citizens as storytellers on World Storytelling Day, March 20, 2016. Toledo will be participating in the 2016 global theme of Strong Women. These stories shared can be told by anyone who has benefited from strong women in their life. If you are Toledo area resident, we invite you to participate as a storyteller by applying to share your story with us on World Storytelling Day. Official site specific locations will soon be announced, but we will be collecting stories in the following neighborhoods: Cherry Street, Dorr Street, East Toledo, Olde North End, Old West End, Old South End, Uptown and the Warehouse District.
After the storytelling event on March 20, the collection of stories will be reinterpreted by area graphic designers, painters, illustrators and photographers to be printed on graphic material and produced on 100 chairs provided by MTS Seating. These artful chairs, along with a corresponding QR Code linking to their story, will go on rolling exhibitions in Toledo Neighborhoods in the Summer of 2016. If you are a Toledo area graphic designer or artist, we invite you to apply to be a visualizer of the stories collected. Submit your application and sample portfolio by February 29, 2016 at sitandtell.com. Instructions for producing artwork for the stories will be emailed to selected artists after the jurying closes.
If you were a fan of You Are Here Toledo, you will love AIGA Toledo's newest project. Apply today to participate as a storyteller or an artist!
NOTE: APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 29TH.
