Create a Log to Keep Track of Your Job Search
Calling all RPCV job hunters out there. If you've submitted more resumes to more places than you can possibly remember this year, than it's time to start keeping a log of where and when you've applied to each job. Keeping a log is a simple and easy way to stay organized and to follow up with the contacts you’ve made. We suggest that you create an excel spreadsheet with a list of the jobs you've applied for, the contact name, when you submitted your resume, whether you've followed up yet or not, the web site, and perhaps most importantly, the website’s passwords. If you are looking for a position in the field of international development here in DC, almost all of the organizations here require you to create a user name and password on their website to upload and track your resume in their systems. Putting a job log together will save you time and energy, and should tell when you should follow up a potential employer via email or call.JobsTrees for the Future – Short Term ContractTrees for the Future ( trees.org) is looking to hire an RPCV for a short-term assignment (now through March) out of the Silver Spring office. Volunteers needed to shape content for break-out sessions during 2016 Peace Corps Connect Conference
Join the PCC Closing Event Committee
Peace Corps Connect 2016, in conjunction with the Peace Corps’ 55th anniversary, will be held in Washington, DC from September 22-25, 2016. The conference itself will take place on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 23-24) and will be preceded by the National Day of Action on Thursday September 22. The morning of Sunday, Sept 25 is reserved for a special event led by local RPCVs.
Have you worked on public, mass-media events in DC accommodating thousands of participants and volunteers? Do you have ideas for a closing activity that could spark a national movement within the Peace Corps community and beyond? Non-traditional ideas are welcome, especially those that would rely largely on volunteer power.
Contact PCC lead Chuck McConnell at npcawest@gmail.com or give him a call at (503) 274-9606 to get involved. CC president@rpcvw.org to share your ideas with the RPCV/W Board and RPCVs of Northern Virginia.
Your Peace Corps Story Needed on Capitol Hill!
NPCA's National Day of Action Set for March 3rd
The Peace Corps community came together in 2015 to score a tremendous victory, securing $30.5 million for the Peace Corps, and providing the highest funding level ever.
Help us keep the momentum going! Sign up here for the National Peace Corps Association's 12th annual National Day of Action.
On March 3rd we want 100 advocates to join us on Capitol Hill to lobby for a bigger and better Peace Corps. Along with increased Peace Corps funding, we will also advocate for better health support for returning volunteers and urge membership in the House Peace Corps Caucus. The is a great opportunity to sharpen your advocacy skills (no prior experience necessary), network and meet RPCVs from every era of service.
We especially need the involvement of RPCVs who are registered to vote elsewhere in the country. And, it's extremely important to join us if you are a constituent of members of the Senate or House Appropriations Subcommittee for State/Foreign Operations.
Contact advocacy@peacecorpsconnect.org if you have any questions. See you on March 3rd.
