Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter is a very important form of communication. If you do not receive one via email, please let Jane have your email so that we can send you one and if you would prefer a hard copy in your child’s pocket, please let Jane know so that we can do this for you!

It is Ice-Cream Friday this Friday. Please send in R5 with your child and they will all enjoy a yummy ice-cream after snack time!!
We will also celebrate Valentine’s Day, so please encourage your children to wear red/pink and white for our dress up day. If you have any silver coins, please bring them along as we will be collecting for our Rainbow Educare fund.

In two weeks it is our AGM and Class Discussions. Please remember to diarise and make a point of organising a baby sitter etc for the evening. It is a most important meeting as you will hear from your child’s teacher the aims and objectives for the year, the wonderful things they do in their classroom, how they organise and run their day, the important elements of their age group and some even some parenting tips!
Our AGM will start the evening at 7pm with a short synopses of what was done last year and our plans for the year ahead. This year we are not having a full election, but will need to have a bi-election as two members of our Board of Governors have left as their children have moved to Grade R at the Primary school.
The two positions available are:
Treasurer and Fundraiser.
If you feel that you could help in either of these portfolios, please come and chat to me in the office. We have approached parents to fill these positions and will need to vote them on at the AGM. Please let me have a short resume of your credentials if you are interested to fill either of these positions so that we can have it available for the AGM.
The minutes of last year’s AGM will be up around the school from tomorrow for your perusal.
For your information, The Board meets once a month and their main role is to manage the finances of the school, coordinate fundraising activities and ensure all procedures are adhered to as per the school constitution. The Board consists of a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and Fundraiser. We also have a maintenance portfolio. I sit on the Board as the Principal. We have a teacher representative and Jane sits on the Board as school secretary.

GATE SECURITY SYSTEM

Our gate device is now up and running. Please pop into the office to have your fingerprint registered or apply for a card, so that you can gain access to the school via the scanner. We will need grandparents/aunties etc who fetch your child regularly to also register their fingerprints.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU CLOSE BOTH GATES WHEN ENTERING AND LEAVING THE SCHOOL FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILDREN!

EXTRA MURALS

Please take advantage of our wide selection of extra murals that we have on offer at the school.
Please contact the coaches directly to enrol your child or fill out the relevant form and hand it in at the office or pop it in the relevant box outside the Stay and Play room.

We will continue each week to ask for fruit and sandwiches, but occasionally will also take a treat such as ‘bunny licks’ to the children as well. If anyone would like to donate something extra every now and again, for example jelly powder or popcorn please feel free and I will take that along as a treat!!
The Mandela box/black bucket is situated at the door, outside the office, or at the front gate on a Wednesday morning.
Anyone wishing to come with me to look at the school and become more involved in this initiative is welcome to come and chat to me.

SHARK GROUP GRADE R  8am - 12-45 pm.

The children loved wearing a special colour for each day. We discussed the variuos shades of each colour and how somethings are always the same colour eg bananas are always yellow and blood is always red.  We had a very busy day on  Friday as we did marble painting using red, yellow and blue food colouring. The children were very excited about the activity and enjoyed experimenting with the media and watching the colours mix. We also made rainbow jelly and the children compared and discussed the changes in the jelly ie powder-liquid-jelly. We learned the words dissolve, set and melt. The children enjoyed eating the jelly and discussing the flavours of the different colours. We let some jelly melt in the sun and discussed that we could change the property of the jelly but we could not get it back in to its original form as a powder.
This week we are learning about secondary colours and colour mixing. We will be wearing the following colours
Tues- green, Wed - orange, Thurs- purple and on Friday red, white or pink for St Valentine's day.
During our EQ lessons we will be discussing how to solve problems. I will use situations that have arisen during the day or over the past weeks. eg What can we do if someone breaks the house we have built with blocks.
Our letter is I i thank you for participating in this programme and for sending objects and pictures.
In maths we are classifying objects according to size, colour, shape and number. We discuss and compare the sets and when doing this the children are encouraged to notice similarities and differences in them. They are also made aware of sets that are more/less or equal.

Greetings all.
Trusting you had a good weekend. This week's theme is My family. We would like to ask for family photos so we can learn more about our families. We will be talking about who lives in their house and what they do as a family bringing about the importance of togetherness.
On emotions we are going to talk about what makes them happy and what makes them sad and then we are demonstrating how to manage these feelings.
This week we will also be focusing on counting and the value of numbers as a skill, touch and count with them at home . Spend quality time together as a family and do things together. Play educational and physical games with your children at home.
We need at least three class representatives to help us with functions at school.  If you are interested or would like to assist, let me know or you can send an email to Paula.(paula@fhpps.co.za)
Just a reminder- please try and label your child's items, and if anything is missing do not hesitate to ask.                                            Home visits are going very well, thank you so much for the support.
