It’s the month of love—something us parents have plenty of when it comes to our kids. We do whatever we can to ensure they’re happy and successful, but as our special guest speaker and best-selling author Julie Lythcott-Haims points out, sometimes we do too much.

Julie’s highly acclaimed book, How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success, has received rave reviews from both experts on parenting and media including the Chicago Tribune, Forbes, New York Times, Slate, and Time. The PTSA and Monta Vista administration are co-sponsoring Julie’s presentations to students, teachers and parents. We are delighted to have her visit Monta Vista and hope you’ll join us for this special engagement on March 7. See details below.

How can we foster academic excellence while reducing unnecessary student stress? Stanford’s Challenge Success recommends students take “real” breaks.  To that end, the PTSA applauds the Monta Vista staff and administration for making a school-wide commitment to not assign homework over breaks, including the one next week. Learn more about Challenge Success below and on  PTSA web page.

We hope your break is a good one and that you join us on Monday, March 7.

Cheers!
Gail Marzolf
PTSA President

P.S. The next PTSA meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 23, in the MVHS library.  The social starts at 6:30, the meeting at 7 p.m. We hope to see you there!
