$1 for Permaculture 2016

Make your $1 for Permaculture donation ($1 per month equals a $12 donation, more if you can) for 2016.

We rely on the community to provide volunteers, financial support, and networking and outreach, to continue our grassroots food justice mission which we are currently managing and operating at 5 sites in Syracuse - The Rahma Edible Food Forest Snack Garden, the backyard of the Syracuse Real Foods Coop, the Kitchen Permaculture Garden on Belmont Street, the DISHES planting strip garden at the corner of Oswego and West Fayette, and the 610 Gifford Street Community Garden!

The funding for our garden, urban agriculture, and Permaculture projects comes primarily from grant funds which we write as volunteers.  We also get some in-kind donations of plants and other material goods during the year.  But the hardest thing to raise money for is overhead expenses.

We are looking for 50 donors to each give $12 (that's only $1 per month), which would result in $600.  This will cover our basic overhead of our liability insurance and our web hosting needs.  If each of you who have participated with us and, we hope, benefited through knowledge learning, receiving food or planting materials, getting hands-on experience, tasting new foods, exposing someone else to the permaculture and foods movement, or if you just appreciate the work we do, please donate today.

Use our secure Network for Good payment portal at https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/ExpressDonation.aspx?ORGID2=45-0594407 to donate your $12.00 (more if you can).

Sincerely, The Alchemical Nursery Board of Directors:

AN OPEN LETTER REQUEST FOR BOARD MEMBERS

Hope you all are having a happy and healthy new year!

As we move into 2016 and get into our organizational roots during the winter, Alchemical Nursery is hoping to grow its Board of Directors!

On our plates, we have permaculture garden projects young and old – such as Syracuse’s first food forest, Rahma Edible Forest Snack Garden – as well as a pioneering example in the Decentralized Urban Community (DUCk) initiative – the Bitternut Homestead on Otisco Street. With improving support, thanks to wonderful volunteers, we’ll be organizing around site-specific stewardship teams. In this process we intend to bring in additional board members and potential leaders of stewardship teams.

If you live in the Syracuse area; want to contribute to a more environmentally, economically, and socially just way of life; and/or enjoy spreading the goodness of plants, then consider teaming up with the Alchemical Nursery Project! We can use the support of folks who want to move our mission forward, and we are in a good position to empower others who want permaculture progress in Syracuse. In addition to that, serving on our board is a good opportunity to gain experience working with a non-profit charitable organization, to learn more about permaculture, agroforestry, and other fields we work in, and to connect with a great group of people in central NY!

Those interested in joining our board of directors, or serving as a permaculture site steward, should message us here on Facebook or write to info@alchemicalnursery.org to get the discussion going! We’ll respond with follow-up information, questions, and next steps to get you setup as a leader in Syracuse’s Permaculture and urban homesteading movements.
