Welcome!

Firstly, a warm welcome to our returning students for 2016 and our new students soon to commence their learning journey with IKON.

The previous few months have seen us navigating the many changes to the VET landscape including new application processes to ensure our compliance with the standards for RTOs and the recent VET reforms.

We have delivered multiple webinars, information sessions and Open Days all designed to inform and inspire our future students. Thank you to all of our trainers and administration staff who have facilitated these sessions or provided support – your specialised knowledge is very appreciated and certainly helps our future students confirm their area of interest and an extra thank you to those who attended, we greatly appreciate your interest and time!

Application Update

Many of our courses have now been confirmed to commence as scheduled, with minimum numbers exceeded.  Keep an eye out for your confirmation email.
We look forward to meeting with you soon!

Staff changes:
We have a changing of the guard in our Education Support Officer’s role in our school.

Lisa Jansen is leaving to pursue her chosen career of naturopathy and we wish her all the very best in her endeavours beyond IKON. She contributed a great deal in a short space of time and we wholeheartedly thank her for it all! Lisa will be replaced in the role by Cassandra Perry. Cassie comes from an education and training background and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role, and to the organisation. Welcome Cassie! For all of you who are in need of contacting our ESO, please contact cassandra.perry@ikoninstitute.com.au. If you forget about the change and you accidentally email Lisa J, then please don’t be surprised when your reply comes through from Cassie!

We were also saddened to recently receive Natalie Walters’ resignation from the student counselling position in Adelaide. Natalie has been an exceptional team member, and very popular with the student population. We wish her all the very best! The students in SA will be well served by Alison and Suzanne going forward.

Welcome back!
Although they’ve been involved with IKON for many years now, we’d like to issue a welcome back to Perth to Terry and Issahna Larson. Both Terry and Issahna have taught for Ikon in previous years, and have made a long, extended journey across Australia back to WA. We look forward to having them contribute to our WA programs this year.

Workshops, Webinars and Open Days:
We have run a series of Webinars, introductory workshops, and Open days over the 3 states in the past month or so. This has been a terrific opportunity to meet a whole range of new people (both face to face and virtually) and help them to understand the extraordinary benefits and joys of counselling. It’s a real treat to experience the earnest passion and drive from so many people who want to make a positive impact on their various communities. Some of them will study with us, and some of them won’t but hopefully all of them come away from experiencing IKON, and feel like there are people and organisations that share their passion.

Studying throughout the generations:
We recently had a young lady enrol in one of our courses who was referred to Ikon by her mum who had graduated from one of our courses many years ago! It was a really nice affirmation that after so long, her experience was obviously positive enough that she would advocate so strongly on our behalf to her own daughter! Love it!

That’s about it for now. See you next month!

Happy 2016!

Once again the place is a buzz in readiness for new classes starting in February.

We have a number of groups coming to the end of their course and it’s been pleasing to see many powering through triads during the break.

Welcome to 2016 from the School of Kinesiology and Mind Body Medicine. This year is a “9” year in the eyes of numerology, it promises to be one to complete unfinished business, reach conclusions and tie up loose ends. Therefore as one door closes another opens. It is time to integrate our past with the present, so that the potential of our future can be seen and felt. A significant transformation is likely this year - alterations and improvements to all areas of life.

What we call the beginning is often the end.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
The end is where we start from.

T.S. Eliot

From the quote above; I believe that we are making a new beginning this year, learning from last year and transforming our experiences into a successful and prosperous 2016. - Rona Spicer
We currently have 5 writers working on the blended learning content for Youth Work, Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs.

Our current DYJ3 group returns for 2016 on Feb 4th with them visiting the Adelaide Youth Training Centre.

DYJ4 has completed the face to face training and working towards completing assignments with a view to graduate at the end of March.
Professional Development
QLD Update
The Open Day in Queensland was a great success.

Participants were asked to take part in the Weaving tales as part of an Art Therapy demonstration led by Jen Chester .

The hands on component of the Open Day was very popular.

The team in Queensland is looking forward to a busy year.

WA Update
WA are excited to soon be welcoming our new classes for 2016.

In other news, we welcome Dee Strandly back after 7 months on maternity leave into her position of State Coordinator from 8am to 4pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For those who are yet to meet Dee in person, be sure to say hello! We would like to extend a special farewell to long standing and valued Lecturer, Vivian Paans who has departed the business due to a new pathway that has been presented to her.  I, on the other hand am pleased to be appointed a contract role in a business development & course advisory capacity. - Rebekkah Jamieson.
Open Day
Thank you to all staff, trainers, graduates and new student's who attended our OPEN Days. These OPEN Days are a great opportunity to wave the IKON flag by informing and inspiring our future students for 2016 and to meet people who share a similar passion in learning to help others.

Student’s must submit their Placement Proposal at least 4 weeks prior to the proposed start date. Approval for Placement must be given prior to commencement or the hours will not be counted towards your placement requirement. Please contact your State Coordinator for further information.
VET FEE-HELP Reforms

The federal government recently announced changes aimed to further protect students who elect to take out a VET FEE=HELP loan. The major updates include changes to the enrolment process, greater penalties for training organisation's not meeting the guidelines and the capping of available VET FEE-HELP placements. IKON have implemented the required changes to maintain our compliance. You can read more about the changes here or contact your state co-ordinator for additional details.

I have been searching for the perfect path of study to compliment my life experience and studies so far. The Advanced Diploma of Transpersonal Art Therapy ticked all the boxes for me. Great trainers, lots of hands on experiential learning, accessible by train and great online resources for the theoretic learning.

The program has been just what I wanted to move into the next phase of my working life. Not only am I becoming an Art Therapist, but my own self awareness has been transformational. It’s a bonus that the other students are so supportive and motivated.
Thank you Ikon!
