Dear Parents,

This week we have welcomed our new Kinder students for 2016. There was great excitement as they came through the gate and headed for their classrooms. There were also some very tired little people at the end of the day. They all appear to have settled really well. We welcome them all and their families to our school and hope that they enjoy their time with us.

Today is Ash Wednesday. All students have attended either a Liturgy or Mass to receive the Ashes. All students have been talking about Ash Wednesday and lent in class. Please take some time to chat with them about what they have learnt.

Lent is a season of preparation for the celebration of Easter. The six weeks of   Lent begins today on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a special time when we remember that God loved us so much that he sent Jesus to give his life to us. During Lent we ask God to help us to be more like Jesus.

Throughout Lent we are called to pray more, to fast in some way and to give generously to those in need. This week the children will bring home a Project Compassion box. We ask that your family consider donating some money to Caritas to assist this Catholic Agency in its great work of helping those in need.

WEDNESDAYS  for this term there will be a Delicious Salad available for children to purchase at recess & lunch time. Only $2 a bowl over the counter.
Keep an eye out  on facebook and St Patricks School App each week for the type of delicious salad we are serving.

Our swimming carnival was a great success last Monday thanks to the organisation and wonderful parent help and support. Congratulations to all the children on their effort in the water. We will be holding an assembly this Friday at 2:05pm in the Mercy Hall to present the certificates for Champion & Runner Up of each age group.
We wish the squad attending the Deanery Carnival next Monday at the Albury Swim Centre all the best for the next level of competition.

A brief explanation to address some confusion about selection for events for the Deanery Swimming Carnival:
The Deanery Sports Council decided a number of years ago to allow swimmers who had gained selection in only one event other than 50m freestyle (breaststroke, backstroke or butterfly) to also swim the 50m freestyle as a second event. Extra freestyle heats are created to allow for this. It isn’t possible to create extra heats in the other strokes due to time constraints so some children may only have one event if they have only gained selection in 50m freestyle. If you need further clarification please contact Jane Fawcett.
Chess Club ~ Every Wednesday at lunchtime there will be chess in the Library. Karen Handson  (Centacare Counsellor) will be organising this for children from Kinder to Year 6.  All welcome.

12th Annual Golf Day.
Sunday 6th March ~ 11.30am. Do you like a fun day out? Are you 18 years or over?Come join us at the Commercial Club Golf Club on Sunday, 6th March, 2016.

This event has one major priority and that is to enjoy yourself and have some fun with friends.

The golf course will be set up with 18 x par 3’s , 2 x straightest drives and 2 x longest drives. For your $40 entrance fee you get to play golf, have some lunch, a free refreshment and lots of fun. If you are lucky enough you might even win $100 for being nearest the pin on one of the 18 greens or a straightest or longest drive!!!

Do you own your own business or work for someone who does? For as little as $150, you/they can contribute to making this an even more successful day. We can advertise your business on the golf course and for a number of weeks on the school newsletters after the golf day. This is a great opportunity for you to grow your business and help raise some much needed funds for the school. Please contact the school office on 6021 4464 or Tony Brooks  (Year 3 teacher) 0407218188 for further information.
