Gardening season is nearly upon us and Lush Valley is excited for another year at the Share the Harvest Community Garden!
What is the Share the Harvest Community Garden?
Located in the heart of Courtenay at 6th St and Harmston Ave, the Garden is a welcoming space for all members of the community where anyone can have access to land to grow food for themselves and the community. It is a space where gardening skills, education and mentorship are nurtured through the collective support of community members, volunteers and partnerships with community organizations and municipalities.
What's going on for 2016?
Building Projects:
The garden is set to go about some awesome changes and we have lots of building projects including building new garden beds, finishing the wheelchair accessible area, building gates, a composting system, a covered toolshed, communications kiosk and general beautification and landscaping of the garden.
Workshops:
During peak gardening season we are aiming to have weekly workshops on basic gardening skills, composting, vermiculture, seed saving, water harvesting, natural pest management and more!
Programs and Events:
We will be kicking off the 2016 season on March 22nd, with an event at the garden to rebuild our Medicine Wheel. Stay tuned for more details!
We'll also be holding potlucks and have several fundraising events in the planning phase.
Urban Agriculture Action Group:
This year we are starting a group for those who are passionate about Urban Agriculture. This working group will identify and lead initiatives aimed at supporting/encouraging the increase of urban agriculture in the Comox Valley and to develop an Urban Agriculture network.
