From the President's Boat
Our February 13th North Metro Annual All You Can Eat Fish Fry Banquet was an overwhelming success.150 people were in attendance, 300+ prizes worth in excess of $24,000 were given away/won and most importantly we grossed $19,950 and netted $10,000. I want to thank all of the Board Members, the NMMI Members, the many Friends and Non-member Guests including the Wells Fargo Covered Wagon Club that all volunteered and helped run our Banquet. Nick Poppler and Jason Wegwerth spent many hours along with me obtaining donations and prizes. We could not have done it without Everyone’s contributions, hard work and efforts.
This was our MAIN FUND RAISER for the year and provides all the funds for our many goals and events. It is very important that we acknowledge and thank our many supporters that donated items and their services for our Banquet that lead to our success. See below and I apologize if I have missed anyone.) Please support their businesses and personally thank them every chance you get for their support.
Our many Thanks for the great fried fish prepared in the custom deep fryer built by the Greg Larain and Greg Riddell at the VFW for our event; Michelle Riddell our bartender and the kitchen Staff of the VFW. The remodeled Coon Rapids VFW hall had a fresh bright look, new round tables, re-carpeted stage and more that really helped everyone’s comfort and enjoyment. The Keg Kup was a huge success as determined by the 3 kegs of beer consumed, as well as the added games and a variety of new types of prizes such as the Grizzly coolers, TCL 55†LED Smart TV, ACV .50 caliber muzzle loader, walleye and ice fishing rods, Timbuktu Lodge stay on Vermilion, Tree Stand and Hunting Blind and more!
Our year to year planning efforts have resulted in better banquet events and with a lot less stress for the volunteers. Every year we do a very detailed post banquet review to identify what worked well, what prizes were the most in demand and what we can improve upon for the following year to make our Banquet more entertaining, fun, with opportunities to win prizes for all. We already have identified a number of ideas for next year’s Banquet scheduled for Feb 25th, 2017 including a North Metro commemorative glass.
Help support the 50th Celebration and the Symposium by buying one of 400 raffle tickets ($20 each) for a chance at a custom one of kind 50th Commemorative Rifle and one day Jim Shannon Memorial Fishing Trip with Dave Brown of Keyes Outdoors.
Saturday March 12th is the Muskies Inc. 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner at the Sheraton West (next to Ridgedale) put on by the North Metro and Twin Cities Chapters. There will be history displays, dinner, games, raffles, silent auction and more. We need your help to put on this event. Please contact me at 612-916-7426 or at President@NMMMuskies@yahoo.com if you can help. We also need volunteers to assist with the Hugh Becker Muskie Symposium, Sunday thru Tuesday March 13th - 15th. The Muskie Symposium is bringing in fisheries specialists and scientists from around the world to present 67 papers on Muskellunge. Please consider attending and volunteering. More information can be found at muskiesinc.org/schedule.
Please note that there is “No†NMMI Members Meetings on Tuesday March 15th due to the Muskies Inc. 50th Anniversary Celebration. On Tuesday April 19th we will resume Members Meeting with Muskie Guide Timmy Peterzen and on May 17th we have our annual Thorne Brothers Poolside Lure Demonstration meeting.
April is just around the corner and we will need volunteers to work our NMMI Booth at George’s Minnesota Muskie Expo. Please review your schedule for availability April 8th - 10th.
Please contact any Board Member if you can help with the Chapter, MN Muskie Expo Booth and State High School Tournament, Annual Picnic & Jim Shannon Members Tournament or any of our events.
Thank you each and every one that supported our Banquet and our Chapter throughout the year!

2016 June Jam
Preparations are underway for the 2016 June Jam tournament. Tournament dates will be: Pre-tournament sign in Friday June 17th at Wilkin’s Bar and resort on Bone Lake; fishing hours 5AM to 9PM Saturday and 5AM to Noon Sunday, Jun 18th and 19st with the awards ceremony at Wilkin’s starting at 1 PM on Sunday. If you’ve never fished it, give it a try. The two day format really lets you test your skills.

Major sponsors this year are Blue Ribbon Bait and Tackle, Red Wing Lodge, Fudally Tackle, Phantom Lures, Pro Label, and Wood’n Wildlife.
Keep an eye on our website or you can contact me through the NMMI website with any questions.

Red Wing Lodge Outing
August 6-13, 2016
Sabaskong Bay
Lake of the Woods
Gift Idea: Package up an Opportunity w/ Over 13,000 Muskie Releases
Last month I asked you to consider this question: Do you need more opportunity or more baits, more opportunity or more tools for catching that big Muskie? Big fish opportunity is awaiting you at Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods, Canada. The resource and the big fish culture that has developed over the years at Red Wing can be captured in good part with the following single stat: 13,000 Muskie releases!
Package up big fish Opportunity with a reservation for the annual August Muskie Inc. Outing to Red Wing Lodge. This opportunity has been provided for years by the cooperative support of Mike and Anne Bartlett of Red Wing Lodge and our two local Muskie Inc. chapters. The annual Muskie Inc. trip to Red Wing Lodge on Sabaskong Bay, Lake of the Woods, is a great choice for either that first Canadian trip or for the veteran’s extra trip. The convenience of a drive-in camp with the privacy you would expect on an island.
Dates for this year’s outing: August 6-13, 2016. Save your surprises for Muskie action, you don’t need them at base camp. Red Wing Lodge offers a resort base that has been family owned and operated for 50 years, is clean and comfortable, where everything works. The Bartlett family has hosted Muskie Inc. outings for years with personal and friendly service, so they understand what Muskie people need and like. Red Wing Lodge is a nine-time Chapter Challenge headquarters, in ’83, ’86, ’93, ’97, ’03, ’04, ’11, ’12 and again in 2014. Check out the Muskie information, including the Red Wing Lodge Hall of Fame, as well as the first live cam in Morson, at www.redwinglodge.net
Cost per person in housekeeping cabins remains at $350 (US Funds) for 2016, just $50.00 per day for big-time Canadian Muskie fishing.
Included in the full value of the 2016 Muskie Inc. trip:
* Free Dockage ($72 value), Free Launch (both ways, $25 value)
* Free Dinner one night, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
* One Free Trip, given away in drawing, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
* Free Wireless Internet Service throughout the Resort
* Free Daily Bag of Ice; door prizes
Reservations require a $50 non-refundable deposit, made out to Red Wing Lodge. Deposits officially confirm reservation holds. First come, first served.
