Even though February is the shortest month of the year we have so much going on!

Please note that your centers opening times may differ and you will need to contact them to find out when they are opening.

    President Report

Hi Everyone,
I trust everyone is well into the swing of the New Year and excited about the year ahead. Since I last communicated with you all, RDAQ have been busy getting organised for the events and workshops this year.
As has been my request before, we are looking for input into Workshop delivery for the year.  Rhiannon is doing regular Skype sessions for OTC and Level 1 training and we hope to confirm some on ground workshops soon.  We are sending Linda Gaffaney to the Program Delivery meeting in Melbourne in a couple of weeks and I would love for our coaches to communicate with Linda so she can represent the coaching body well. I believe she has written to all the centres to this effect.
Gateway RDA is gathering speed, we have riders on the waiting list and we are working hard to get it up and going in Term 2. We are still formulating all the details but we are excited by the interest so far.  It will be a humble beginning as we work to get all facilities in place. We will keep you posted.
Lisa Kirkup from the Board and Jenna are working hard on the State Championships Program. The draft is looking great and we are chasing sponsors to help so we can make it a fantastic event. If you have any feedback please put it in an email so we can take it on board before decisions are made.
We will need some volunteers to help out on that weekend so if you have family and friends that can help out we would appreciate the help.
Don’t forget to send in your news so all centres can enjoy your centres’ successes. Every centre has inspiring stories so share them around. As you all start your return to ride days I wish you all every success.
Regards
Trish Hollis

New Gateway RDA Centre

RDAQ is pleased to announce the opening of Gateway RDA at the Hendra Pony Club.

There is an enormous amount of work to do before the first session is held for Riders. However we have set a date of 11th April for our first session. To make this happen we need to achieve the following;

1/ establish a base of volunteers
2/ establish a base of coaches
3/ establish a client base and their specific needs.
4/ establish what programs we will be capable of running initially,
5/ establish a stable of suitable horses
6/ establish a tack room containing what we need to match our clients to our horses and programs
7/ establish a feed room and carry the right feeds and necessary treatments for our herd.
8/ Source ongoing support and funding including sponsorships for the Centre, Events and Horses
9/ Involve the community and expand the Awareness of RDAQ.
And we have probably left out as much again. If you are INTERESTED IN JOINING IN AS A VOLUNTEER, COACH, RIDER, DONOR OR SPONSOR we would love to hear from you. Please contact Jenna in our office on 3888 5277 OR EMAIL admin@rdaq.org.au .

We are always in need of volunteers all over QLD.

Think about how much you receive when you give and consider why you want to volunteer. You may have several different reasons. Here are just a few of the many possible motivations identified by other volunteers:

  • to feel needed
  • to share a skill
  • to get to know a community
  • to demonstrate commitment to a cause/belief
  • to gain leadership skills
  • satisfaction from accomplishment
  • to keep busy
  • to donate your professional skills
  • to have an impact
  • to learn something new
  • for freedom of schedule
  • to help a friend or relative
  • to be challenged
  • to feel proud
  • to make new friends
  • to explore a career
  • to help someone
  • as therapy
  • to do something different from your job
  • for fun!
  • to keep skills alive
  • to have an excuse to do what you love
  • to feel good
  • to be part of a team
  • to test yourself
  • to build your resume
  • because of personal experience with the problem, illness, or cause
  • to stand up and be counted

Crowson Park RDA

Crowson Park saddles up for 2016 on the 1st of March with many new clients joining our team. To ease the
pressure on our waiting list some of our riders have moved to fortnightly lessons. This has allowed more riders the chance of riding. Some of our horses were holidaying at a lovely grassy paddock but are now back at Crowson Park and looking forward to meeting new and existing riders. During the holidays we were very lucky in securing a grant from Logan Council with the help of Cr Laurie Smith. We purchased a new zero turn ride-on to keep our paddocks in tip top condition. We now have a waiting list for volunteers wanting to use the ride-on.
