J-Term 2016 Photos

Maryville College students learned about a wide range of topics during January Term 2016. Experiential education courses included “Ceramic Tile Production,” “Wilderness First Aid,” “Wildlife Photography,” “Pets and Poetry,” “Sociology of Appalachian Culture,” “Words and the Land: Creating Literature from Nature,” and “Social Dimensions of Forestry,” among others. Two groups spent J-Term abroad in France and Ecuador. Check out the photos!

February Meetings

Jeanne Bishop, a criminal defense attorney, activist and author, is the speaker for MC’s 2016 February Meetings, which will be held in April. Bishop will give a presentation titled “Beyond Forgiveness: A Murder Victim’s Family Member on Redemption, Reconciliation and Restoration” on April 4 at the Clayton Center. Career Center

This month, the MC Career Center will hold three networking mixers designed for freshmen to meet professionals in careers of interest and learn networking skills. If you would like to share your professional experience with freshmen, attend a networking mixer in February. Dates, times and professional areas are listed on the MC website. Alumni are also invited to the ribbon cutting event for the newly renovated Career Center in Bartlett Hall on Thurs., Feb. 25 from 4-6 p.m. To RSVP, please email Christy McDonald.

Judy Carmichael

Grammy-nominated pianist Judy Carmichael, one of the world’s leading interpreters of stride piano and swing, will perform at the Clayton Center on Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. She will also record her public radio show, “Judy Carmichael’s Jazz Inspired,” live from the Clayton Center at 3 p.m. on Feb. 28. Athletics News

Darrin Travillian became the MC women's basketball program's winningest head coach on Feb. 5, with a 63-46 win over USA South foe Ferrum College. He tied Wes Moore's 129-win total on Jan. 30, before the sixth-year head coach picked up his 130th career victory. Read the story.
