Texas Fleets Still Investing in Natural Gas
Despite Low Diesel Prices, Natural Gas Station Build-out Continues
A newly released map of existing and planned natural gas fueling stations in Texas indicates Texas fleets are continuing the switch to natural gas. The map, compiled by the Texas Natural Gas Foundation (TXNG), shows that drivers of natural gas vehicles have 150 places to refuel in Texas—44 percent more than the 104 stations in August 2014. (See map)  Forty-one additional stations plan to open in 2016, adding to the state’s current count of 64 public fueling stations and 86 private stations.
According to TXNG, there are also more natural gas cars and trucks on Texas roads.  The natural gas vehicle count has jumped from 7,100 to 9,000, based on TXNG’s fleet survey.
“Texas fleet managers recognize the importance of diversifying their fuel sources, especially when that fuel is coming from countries that don’t like us very much,” said State Representative Jason Isaac.  “As president of the Texas Natural Gas Foundation, I want to encourage the use of Texas fuels that build our state’s roads and support our public education.  In contrast to other alternative fuels that don’t pay the state motor fuel tax, I’m proud to note that natural gas motor fuel  users fund public education and transportation infrastructure to keep our economy strong.”
San Antonio and Lake Jackson Welcome New Public Refueling in February
RRC Chairman David Porter applauded CNG Energy Partners at their Lake Jackson natural gas station opening for introducing the first-ever public access fueling station offering alternative fuels in Brazoria County.
TXNG Board President Jason Isaac joined Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, Texas State Senator Carlos Uresti and more than four dozen others for the ribbon cutting of the Nat G CNG Solutions refueling station off Vidor Avenue in San Antonio.  Both stations are open 24/7, and accept credit card and fleet cards.
“Diversifying the fuels used by transportation fleets improves air quality and makes gasoline prices more predictable for other motorists.  We need to diversify that portfolio to lead to price stability and reduce our energy costs," Isaac said.
RRC Waives CNG and LNG License Fees for Vets
Now military service members, veterans and military spouses seeking to obtain certification and company licensing to work in Texas with alternative fuels, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG, Propane, Butane), can receive a military fee exemption and will not be required to pay to take examinations or obtain exempt registrations and licenses. These licenses and certifications allow operators and individuals to work as vehicle technicians, service and installation technicians, retail/wholesale dealers, service station operators, and general installers and repairmen, just to name a few.
2015 Milestones for Natural Gas Usage
  • Natural gas topped coal as the #1 source of energy for U.S. power plants in 2015, according to the Energy Information Service.  This is the first time in a century that natural gas, which generates approximately a third of our electricity, has taken first place.
  • ExxonMobil projects that by 2040, natural gas will see demand growth of about 65 percent, rising into second place as a wide range of consumers — particularly utilities and industrial manufacturers — choose gas for its low emissions and its versatility as a fuel and feedstock. Gas is also emerging as a fuel for transportation, according to the company's 2015 Outlook For Energy.
