Birmingham LGBT are looking for people to join their existing group of committed and enthusiastic volunteers.  They offer a range of health and wellbeing service for the LGBT community.  Services range from taster sessions in Yoga, Pilates and Stress-box to regular support groups, counselling sessions and sexual health clinics.

Volunteers form an essential part of the team providing services at the centre.  Some volunteers cover reception answering the phone, admitting people who are attending events to the building; and providing information on a wide range of LGBT activities, events and groups to general visitors. Volunteers also assist with the Wellbeing Program visiting bars and community events raising awareness of health inequalities within the LGBT community and encouraging people to complete written wellbeing assessments.

Some volunteers’ support the work of the centre as and when required carrying out a meet and greet role at events such as the Shout Festival, Pink Picnic and LGBT sports events etc.  All volunteers receive training appropriate to their role.  Those helping out at the centre also require an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB).

If you require further information contact paulashcroft@blgbt.org or call 0121 643 0821

Reception
Volunteer receptionists provide a friendly but professional welcome to those visiting the centre.  First impressions are very important.  Many people are visiting for the first time, some are nervous or destressed so a friendly welcome can make a big difference to them.

The reception area contains a wide range of information on LGBT events and organisations directing people to relevant literature or the appropriate part of the Birmingham LGBT website is also an important part of the role.
