Burning Questions with Mr. Ferriero - Episode 2

Another successful week down in Preschool. It was a very busy week, filled with lots of fun activities. Our focus of the week was all things P. Everyone had a great time doing science and painting our picnic table for the auction. We discussed MyPlate and eating healthy. For snack, we even went over a recipe and made Pumpkin Pancakes! Dissecting Pea Pods, putting together puzzles, and playing with play-doe were just a few other things the preschool class did this week.

Another great week in the Kinder Class!  We worked with the letter Dd this week and added two new words to our "word pockets".  We also Celebrated Josie Swanson's wonderful week.  We got to meet her family and we toured "her moms bank"!  Also we celebrated Josie's 1/2 birthday! In math we are working on more and less and are doing very good.

This week first grade focused on words with -ai and -ay in reading.  We practiced making and then checking our predictions when reading a story.  We also worked on using was and were correctly.  In math we are working with using the fewest coins possible (dimes, nickels, pennies) when paying for items.  In science we are learning about the land and water on Earth.

In Social studies we are learning about our rights and responsibilities of being United States citizens.  we are also learning the steps it takes to become a citizen of our country.  We are learning about Earth's resources in Science class.  We looked at rock and mineral samples and described their similarities and differences.  We had fun completing our class projects for the auction/dinner on February 20th.

In the third grade classroom we are continuing to work on multiplying and dividing and we think we are becoming quite skilled. In social studies we are working on a travelogue on the Caribbean and North America.  In science we are still learning about the solar system and the planet we focused on this week was our very own, Earth! This week the school nurse, Karen Folkman, visited our classroom and will be doing so for a few weeks as she teaches us about first aid and safety.

We have had another eventful week of learning in fourth grade this week! We are wrapping up a unit in social studies on Native Americans and we have learned so much about these amazing people! In reading we are working on creating a book on silly superhero stories. This book will actually be published. How cool is that?

This week in fifth grade we finished our math unit on fractions. We also started working with methods to multiply. In reading, we held our fairy tale trial. The students LOVED this project. Each student was a character from the popular fairy tale Cinderella. They all had expressed their points of view in the trial and replayed the sequence of events. The fourth grade students and Mr. Ferriero were our jury, and helped decide if the mean Step-Mother and Step-Sisters were guilty of keeping Cinderella from the royal ball and treating her poorly. Learning is so much FUN!

It was a very fun week in the 6 grade classroom. Mr.Perrault took a trip to Mexico! The class had Mr.Witt for a substitute. We are learning about bar graphs and misleading data in Math.
We're reading about the Titanic, learning lots of new things in math, and we've got a Science test on Friday. It was a very good week in the 6 grade classroom. (Completed by 6th grader Haleigh Velde)
