FHS NEWS: Term 3

Update from
the Principal

The sharp eyed amongst you will have noticed that Ms Callow has been Acting Principal for the past term. This has been due to myself being taken seriously ill in October. I am glad to say I am fully on the road to recovery and will be back full time in the next term. Ms Callow will continue as Acting Principal until Easter while I am working a phased return. I am sure you will join me in thanking her for a tireless work in supporting the school in taking this on.

The grass has not grown under anyone’s feet this year as we continue to strive for outstanding. There have been the usual exciting and inspiring events happening across the school. Year 11 are incredibly focused on their upcoming examinations and their prom! We have been asked by the DFE to share our excellent practice on value added which again saw us in the top 10% of schools in the country and we are one year on as an academy now working across the Trust to improve teaching and learning for all.

We are disappointed that our bid to house a sixth form has not been moved forward by the Regional Commissioner and I am awaiting a one to one discussion regarding that. We are also still endeavouring to secure a permanent playing fields site to ensure all students are able to access facilities to improve their health and wellbeing.

On the good news front we will be oversubscribed again for Year 7 intake in September. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in the community for the school which has contributed to us being in this situation.

I am looking forward to a fantastic rest of the year!

Ms Catriona Mangham

Principal
