Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year and a successful and productive academic and research year. May 2016 bring you peace, happiness, good health.

We kick off this new year with the Newsletter which is  a major vehicle for keeping EMAC members informed about marketing events, initiatives and activities organised around the globe, as well as conveying news for, and from, members.

We are pleased to share with you the latest news from the EMAC community.
The next Newsletter will be sent out mid-February. Should you have any information to share with your peers for the issue of February, please send your contribution before February 8, 2016 to Nina Payen  following the short guidelines.

Professor Marnik Dekimpe from Tilburg University and KU Leuven is the winner of the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2016.
 
This annual award is designed to be the highest honor that a marketing educator who has had extensive connections with EMAC (The European Marketing Academy) can receive. 
The two main criteria for the award are: (1) outstanding marketing scholarship as reflected in extensive, impactful research contributions and (2) outstanding contributions to the European Marketing Academy.
 
Professor Dekimpe has an outstanding publication record, with 59 articles in international marketing and management science journals, including ten in the International Journal of Research in Marketing.
Of those ten articles in IJRM, six received the IJRM best paper of the year award (2014, 2006, 2002, 2001, 1997 and 1995). 
Among many other awards, he has won the John DC Little Best Paper Award of the INFORMS college on Marketing in 2001, the Frank M. Bass Dissertation Paper Award in 2002, as well as the Paul E. Green Best Paper Award in 2000.
 
Professor Dekimpe has been a pioneer in the modeling of long-term effects of marketing activities. 
His work is used extensively in doctoral education and has inspired a number of colleagues to apply the VAR models that he, together with Professor Dominique Hanssens, introduced to the marketing field. 
His in-depth studies of long-term effects in the context of retailing have brought new dimensions to our understanding of the retailing industry and to the dynamics of retailer-manufacturer relationships. 
 
Professor Dekimpe has provided exceptional service to the EMAC community, in particular as Editor-in-Chief of IJRM (2010-2012), after serving as Associate Editor (2007-2009) and as Vice-President of Publications, a position he currently holds. 
He has been on the editorial board of the International Journal of Research in Marketing since 1994, which he joined only two years after obtaining his PhD from UCLA.  
 
Given his rigorous and impactful research, his exceptional contributions to EMAC, and his service to the marketing community, Professor Dekimpe fully deserves the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award.
 
He will officially be presented with the Award at the upcoming EMAC conference in Oslo (May 24-27, 2016), where he will give an invited presentation in a special session.
The Award Committee consisted of Hubert Gatignon (Chair), Gilles Laurent and Gary Lilien.

New Dean of EMAC Fellows

The three-year term of Professor Suzanne Beckmann as Dean of EMAC Fellows will end at the next EMAC conference in Oslo.
Professor Beckmann did not wish to be re-elected.

Lutz Hildebrandt and Gilles Laurent were in charge of organizing the election of the new Dean.
They are very glad to announce the results.
Professor Udo Wagner, from the University of Vienna, has been elected for a three-year term.
He received 17 votes and there was one abstention.

We thank warmly Professor Suzanne Beckmann for her long contribution to EMAC as Dean of Fellows and in many other positions (including President).

We wish Professor Udo Wagner the best in his new position, which gives him one more opportunity to serve EMAC.

MSI SEEKING RESEARCH PROPOSAL SUBMISSIONS RELATED TO TOPIC OF CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
 
The Marketing Science Institute (MSI) is pleased to announce an initiative to fund new and novel academic work that will help scholars and managers better understand, design, manage, and measure customer experience.

If you are contemplating undertaking a new research project related to the broad topic of customer experience, we encourage you to send us a submission. This is open to all research methodologies and approaches.
We have allocated a special pool of grant funds to cover the direct costs of research grants in the range of $3,000 - $15,000.

Submissions will be evaluated using a two-stage process.
The initial submission should be a brief pre-proposal describing the proposed research plan.
The authors of promising pre-proposals will be encouraged to submit a full proposal for consideration for funding.
Submissions will be processed on a rolling basis.

A new generation of marketing experts is developing the theories and tools that will shape the future of our field. The Marketing Dissertation Award, initiated by EMAC and McKinsey & Company, recognizes and encourages this emerging talent. This distinguished award will be presented in 2016 for the eighth time.

We invite all interested researchers to participate in next year’s 13th Marketing Dynamics Conference, to be held at the University of Hamburg July 6-9, 2016. The Marketing Dynamics Conference is a forum whose relatively small scale (about 100-120 participants) ensures a vibrant discussion about cutting-edge research on managerially relevant dynamic marketing problems. We introduce a new PhD track with dynamic feedback on July 7, a dynamic best paper award, and allow 45 minutes for each presented paper.

Please submit your work until Feb 5, 2016 to marketing-dynamics@wiso.uni-hamburg.de. Decisions will be made by Feb 15, 2016.
