As part of our charity assemblies, this term we welcomed some representatives from the RSPCA on Monday to talk about their work and how funds raised are used as well as helping the youngest children understand how to help care for pets in their homes. We are having an animal themed mufti day next Friday so the children can wear any kind of casual clothes, such as animal motif jumpers, onesies or whatever they like to help us raise funds for all of our chosen charities.
We are looking forward to our play 'Skool and Crossbones'. On Wednesday and Thursday next week which I am sure will be a fun filled and energetic performance.
A gentle reminder that if your child is unwell, please do not send them to school until they are well with a normal temperature or 48 hours after any sickness.
Have a good weekend.

Inspiring Landscapes
Frances Hatch is a modern artist who visited Antarctica about ten years ago. Her paintings are a story of her journey. Year Six looked at features of landscapes on the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery website and designed a digital landscape. They then discussed the colours and style of Frances Hatch and chose one of her Antarctic landscapes to inspire their own pictures.
Fascinating Facts
This week in Science, Year Five have been finding out about the moon. We have discovered different facts and in particular, we have studied the phases of the moon with the help of polystyrene balls, a pencil, a torch and a dark classroom. It has been fascinating to discover more about something that we have always taken for granted in our night's sky.
Cross Country Challenge
Tuesday saw the arrival of Springfield's annual cross country event held at Pitchcroft. It was a bright, wintery day with a very chilly wind. All pupils from Year Three to Year Six took part in two separate races, each earning points for their house. It was wonderful to see Year Three children working hard to complete the course, many of whom had never visited the racecourse before. There was great team spirit on show as everybody joined in to support their house. Congratulations to Harry Rutter and James Ralph who won their respective races. Also to Mischa Denney-Richards and Hannah Etherington who were the first girls to finish. Overall first place went to Tigers (220 points), second place Jaguars (152 points), third place Panthers (158 points) and fourth place Lions (143 points). Well done to all runners and staff for making it a fantastic event
The Perfect Stick
'Stick Man lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three.
But it's dangerous being a Stick Man. A dog wants to play with him, a swan builds her nest with him. He even ends up on a fire.'
Today Dragonflies went on a hunt to find their perfect stick man. We explored the school grounds and ventured into Forest School. We found so many different sticks, long, short, fat, nobbly, wet, rotten, leafy and some just perfect for our stick man creation. In the classroom, we all glued and taped the sticks to create individual characters or families. Googly eyes were used in plenty and our sticks began to take on their own personalities.
Intriguing Italy
As part of our topic work on Italy, the children in Year Four have been researching different facts about Italy. The children used child-friendly websites to find out key facts about the country, made useful notes and carefully grouped them on popplet. They are currently bringing all the information together to create an information booklet about Italy.
