Good Character & Citizenship is a core area at the Boys & Girls Club. Teaching members the value of being active in the community and to give back to others is important to our mission. Seeing first-hand the difference you can make is often the best way to build lasting experiences! This month
especially, we've been busy with service-learning projects.
North Side Club members led a Club-wide donation drive to collect water, water filters, and cleaning wipes to bring to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint.  With the help of community and business donations, over 32,000 pounds of water were donated to the cause!  These donations will help with cooking, drinking, and maintaining after school operations at the Flint Club.  On February 15th our staff, teens, and a dedicated board member delivered the water and supplies.  A big thank you to everyone who participated in the water drive - especially Padnos for the use of their truck to transport the donations!

"We emphasize service projects with our members because we believe it's important to empower them to realize that they can make a difference in our community and beyond." -  Justin Caserta, North Side Unit Director

Time to Give Back is our 5-7th grade group focused on service in the Club and volunteer projects in the community.  One of the places they chose to help out at this month was Harbor Humane Society.  The kids spent the afternoon playing with and learning about the animals.  The group is looking forward to their upcoming volunteer trip to Kid's Food Basket.

Stay tuned for details  on our next service project:  Our Club will be sponsoring a Detroit  Public School classroom.
Program Highlight:

Over the next few months, both Clubs are participating in growing an indoor Tower Garden. We received the Tower Gardens through the Growing Up program with support by Megan Petersen with Teach Learn Grow.  The program has a goal of teaching more kids and teens about healthy living and healthy alternatives in food choices. Club members will watch the produce grow and, of course, sample the end rewards!
