Voices of Youth Count Videoconference Invitation

ECHO and LifeWorks invite you to join them for a videoconference inviting Travis County to partner in an innovative policy research effort called the Voices of Youth Count  (VoYC) initiative. The initiative, launched by Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, is designed to link evidence and action by capturing the experiences of unaccompanied homeless and runaway youth, more clearly defining the scope of the issue, and driving compelling knowledge into the hands of the broad national community dedicated to ending youth homelessness. VoYC is seeking partnerships with up to 28 sites to work side-by-side with Chapin Hall’s integrated research, policy, and management team. This videoconference will provide a diverse group of our community stakeholders with an overview of the initiative, the benefits and commitments associated with partnership, and a discussion about this important opportunity.

Building a New Narrative on Human Services

The National Human Services Assembly has launched a Reframing Human Services Initiative to build public understanding of human services to encourage more vibrant civic participation and deepen support for effective programs. As part of this multi-year initiative, the Assembly engaged the FrameWorks Institute to develop an evidence-based strategy for reframing the work of the sector. They now have a robust set of FREE tools available to equip health and human service providers and advocates to integrate this new narrative into their advocacy, communications, and resource development strategies:
  • Talking Human Services MessageMemo. FrameWorks synthesized and interpreted the full array of research findings into a single document that incorporates audio and video components of the research, as well as supergraphics, to help advocates understand what they are up against in communicating about human services and what they can do to improve their effectiveness.
  • Building a New Narrative on Human Services is a collection of framing research, recommendations, and sample communications designed to help leading voices explain the importance of human services. When communicating with the public or policymakers, you are encouraged to borrow the toolkit language verbatim, if desired, or to adapt the examples to the immediate needs of a local communications context.
One Voice Training
One Voice is thrilled to announce that staff from the National Human Services Assembly will join us on Wednesday, April 27th in Austin to lead a training around this new narrative for One Voice members and communications staff. Please mark your calendars for what will surely be an interesting and engaging training. Stay posted for additional details and an invitation.
