Karl Samp Named Executive Director
First full time Executive Director for BLACF

Brainerd, Minn. – CommunityGiving and the Board of Directors of the Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation (BLACF) are pleased to announce the hiring of Karl Samp as the first full time Executive Director of the Foundation.
Samp comes to the BLACF with 35 years of non profit and foundation experience. For the past nine years he has worked as a Brainerd based independent consultant facilitating community, governmental and organizational strategic planning and visioning sessions. He also provided project design and program management for the Blandin Foundation. Prior to this he worked for nine years as the Vice President for Community Initiatives for the Initiative Foundation based in Little Falls and earlier in several roles at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
Samp is a Blandin Community Leadership Program graduate, a charter member and former president of the Baxter Lakes Area Kiwanis Club and in 2002 received the Service to Mankind Award from the Brainerd Lakes Area Sertoma Club. In 2012 he was awarded the 2012 National Mississippi River Parkway Commission Distinguished Service Award.
BLACF Board Chair Bob Sweeney noted “Karl Samp is a great choice to lead the Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation at this time in our history. Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation, in affiliation with CommunityGiving, is a public charity that attracts and administers charitable funds for the benefit of the local community. Since 1998, BLACF has grown to over $7.8 million in assets and has awarded over $3.4 million in grants to local nonprofits. CommunityGiving is a partnership of four community foundations, including Alexandria Area Community Foundation, Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation, Central Minnesota Community Foundation, and Willmar Area Community Foundation.
