Grammar Speech Meet

Ben Lohmeyer wrote a speech for the in-house speech meet held last week.  Ben shares insight into meaningful worship.  Results of the Speech Meet will be included in next week's Herald.

Title: Is the Church a Place of Meaningful Worship or a Social Club?
Topic: Church
Ben Lohmeyer

In today’s busy world, more and more families no longer go to church. When we do make the time to go to church, we often ignore the real reasons for attending. What does going to church mean to you? When you go to church do you go to relate to God and experience worship or do you go to see and be seen?
In worship we are reminded that God is big. Isaiah 6:3 says “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord, the world is full of his glory.” Spending time with our friends is always fun, but only when we worship God together with other Christians can we fully experience the majesty and glory of God.  In church we are exposed to the magnificence of God through scripture, music, and lessons from the pastor. We are called to experience God and feel a part of something that is bigger than ourselves.
When we go to church we go to become renewed. Historically in worship, God’s people admitted their mistakes. Psalm 51:10 tells us that after King David made a big mistake, he prayed, “Create in me a new heart, O God, and renew in me a right spirit.” We also come to hear God’s Word, and in hearing we respond with faith. Luke 5:11 says that when Jesus called the first disciples, they left everything to follow him.  Hearing his call renewed them and sent them out in a new direction.
Micah 6:8 says “O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” God requires something of us, and that something is more than just showing up on Sunday in our best clothes. In worship, the people remember who God is, what God requires, and how God lives and moves within our lives. This is what separates the church from being a social club. God calls us to go forth and make a difference in the world.
If you think going to church is an opportunity to see and be seen, maybe you should rethink what God requires of us as Christians.  God wants for us to experience his magnificence, to restore our spirits in him, and to go out into the world and make a difference. How are you going to worship this week? How are you going to make a difference?

MPAC Parking

Every change brings about new challenges.  While MPAC is a tremendous blessing to the school, it has created a few challenges parking-wise.   The small lot next to MPAC has become somewhat of mixing bowl during certain times of the day.  In an attempt to ease that congestion and create a safer campus environment for all of our students, effective immediately, all MPAC events parking in the small lot next to MPAC will be limited to grandparents and visitors only.  We ask that ALL families and students use the main parking area north of Herzog Hall for these events.

Also, please do not use the MPAC parking lot at morning/afternoon drop-off or pick-up.  Please use the lane to the north of Herzog Hall during these times for logic and rhetoric students.  Not only is traffic tight and congested, we also have pedestrian traffic with students are walking from the practice field after their athletics period.  We appreciate your willingness to follow these guidelines as we promote safety at Heritage School.  Students should always park in the student parking area.

If you need to come into the school, please park your car in the main parking area.

Thank you!

Kimberley and Savy Franek cleaned out the Uniform closet!  Please help us keep the space neat. Items left in the closet should be properly folded or placed on hangers.

2015-2016 is the last year to wear a Dennis Uniform.  You may donate all the khaki Non-descript Heritage skirts, shorts and pants.  Heritage Shirts with logos may be turned in to Heritage School to be recycled.  Thank you for your help.

Surprise!  It's Spring Fling!

Important Notices

Your Child's Safety is Important!

Heritage School has the safety of our students in mind as we post new signs on the playground.  We welcome student activity at Heritage School.  However, we ask that if your student would like to play on the playground after school hours, a parent or guardian must directly supervise their play.  Thank you for your cooperation!
Please note that Heritage School (Herzog Hall) closes daily at 4:00 p.m.  All students must be picked up by 4:00 p.m. unless they are participating in an athletic practice.   Thank you.
ATTENTION PARENTS:  PLEASE do not park in either of the circle drives in front of the school. These are fire lanes as well as drive through lanes and you are hindering the flow of traffic if you park your car there.  Please use the provided parking spaces if you need to park and come into the school.

Seriously folks!  PLEASE no parking in the fire lanes.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Early College Credit Registration Open for Spring

Central Texas College has opened its registration portal for Summer Classes. You should start the online application process at:   http://www.ctcd.edu/students/prospective-students/how-to-enroll/texas-students/   Complete the one-time online application to CTC, track down your SAT scores and make an appointment with Kristy Kothe at the Hill Country University Center (254-616-3401) You must be a junior or senior to register and are limited to two courses per semester.
More independent souls may find the ONLINE early college offerings at LeTourneau University more suitable: http://www.letu.edu/_Admissions/dualcredit/  Although LETU online students do not have designated online class times, they do have weekly deadlines for graded work. LETU courses cost about $360 each.
Early college credit not only saves thousands of tuition dollars ($328/course at CTC  compared to $950 at A&M and $3636 at Baylor), the gift of time and flexibility in your future college schedule can be more advantageous in pursuing a minor or double major. Also, the seniority attained by early college credit can make a huge difference at freshman registration. Of course, early college credits afford little advantage at all if your chosen major degree plan does not call for those courses or your target college does not accept the transfer. Mrs. Sauer can help you find that information and help you make a plan.
