Office News

Hard to believe it's March 2016 already...

The Lakeside Pool has certainly been the place to be this past few HOT months..  Many of you, along with your children and grandchildren have made really good use of our pool.  Not to mention our water aerobic ladies, and gents, who have been frequenting it twice a week, with the numbers growing and growing...

The bowling green is finished and thanks to a dedicated few residents is looking wonderful and getting plenty of use too. The refurbishment of the bowling green was a long process, beginning prior to September last year.  We had been gathering quotes and ideas for quite a while, and this was relayed to the concerned committee, the Bowling Committee, who were kept up to date with what was happening.  This task was a major upgrade and was not undertaken because of any issues raised from any meetings with Resident committee members, which was what was told at a recent meeting. All our residents are very happy with the results.

As the winter months approach, we will be starting the never ending tree trimming and lopping schedule.  As the grass grows slower this gives us more time to focus of the trees and  other maintenance issues popping up over the summer months.

BUS OUTINGS - The next three months the bus outings consist of the Wildlife Blackbutt Reserve with a BBQ lunch, a Mystery Tour and a visit to Barramundi Farm and Medowie Macadamia Farm as well as our normal Ten Pin Bowling and Chickadee and Sara-Lee Factory Outlets.  Our normal shopping trips will be on and for more details see our Events Calendar on our website www.lakesideleisurevillage.com.au.  You may need to refresh the page to get the new calendar up.

NEWSLETTER - If you notice any mistakes in the events or if you are not getting your newsletter via email you can come and see us in the office and we will add you to our mailing list.  Also if you have something to contribute to the newsletter, drop it into our office or letterbox with your phone number and we will see if we can include it in our next one.

ROADS - As you will notice our staff are busily re tarring some sections of our roads, this task is undertaken 3 times a year, our work schedule for this is the beginning of Autumn, Spring and Summer.  If you do notice any bad patches on the roads at any other times, please let the office know and we will get them fixed.

EVACUATION PLAN - This is always available at the office should any of our residents need one and we have recently put one into each letterbox in the village, it is only slightly different to the original put out a few years ago.

CANAL ON 10TH AVENUE - We have heard that residents are concerned about the reeds and growth in the canal - we can assure you that the Canal is working well.  Wyong Council inspect the village twice a year and they are satisfied with the eco system in our canal. William also keeps a close eye on it too.  If you do have specific concerns, feel free to ask William when you see him out and about.

INSURANCE- We no longer require you to bring in your insurance certificate for our records.

Housekeeping issues;

SPEED LIMIT - 10 KPH - PLEASE,PLEASE ADHERE TO THIS AT ALL TIMES.. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT RESIDENTS AND THEIR VISITORS  SPEEDING AND IT IS DANGEROUS IN OUR VILLAGE.
ALSO - THERE ARE STILL A FEW RESIDENTS STILL DRIVING THE WRONG WAY ON OUR ONE WAY STREETS, PLEASE OBEY ALL ROAD SIGNS, IT'S FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL.

VISITOR PARKING - A FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT THESE SPACES ARE FOR VISITORS....  UNLESS ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE WITH MANAGEMENT, PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THEM..

SWIMMING POOL - PLEASE ENSURE YOU ACCOMPANY YOUR GUESTS AND FAMILY IN THE POOL, AND ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT THE POOL IS PRIMARILY FOR RESIDENTS OF THE VILLAGE. ALWAYS ABIDE BY THE POOL RULES AND DO NOT ALLOW RUNNING IN THE POOL AREA, AND ONLY DIVE WHERE IT IS SAFE AS INDICATED BY THE SIGN ON THE POOL FENCE. ALSO PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE RESIDENTS LIVING AROUND THE POOL AREA AND TRY TO KEEP NOISE MINIMAL.

PET CARE - DO NOT ALLOW YOUR PETS OFF THE LEASH, AND PLEASE ALWAYS CLEAN UP AFTER THEM.

Sales News

Sales are still as busy as ever... At the time of writing this newsletter we have just ordered a further 3 new homes for people who want to move into the village.  It's certainly a busy time.  Our established homes are selling as fast as they are being listed, with only 1 left on our books to sell.

We have had over 60 property inspections in the last 3 months, and welcomed 6 new people to our village.  We have sold 2 new homes and 2 pre loved homes in this time.
Library News

The Library has changed over the last 4 years with many services and areas being added for the enjoyment of the Village.

This is the original group that did all the work to set up and maintain the Library as you see it now. You will notice many changes in the system and much more stock to entertain you.
All our group is still working in the Library and enjoying the monthly meetings and Book Chats, except for Marlene who has taken her husband and left us for a better offer on the south Coast, closer to her family.
From the left: Marlene: Natalie: Maryse: Jean: Von: Pam and Lorraine.
From this small number we now have 14 members who join us in working bees when needed and who come along to the monthly get togethers and enjoy a cuppa, lovely cakes if Von has felt like baking, and chats about books and authors we like, or don’t like.
If you would care to be part of this happy group, get in touch with one of the women and she will bring you along to meet us and join in with us. We will make you very welcome.

We will hold an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, as usual, in May and would love to see many people at the Community Hall for a very yummy Morning tea and some wonderful entertainment by Robyn Butler of the group “Adam and the Antiques” from Port Macquarie. There will be raffles and guessing games with a host of prizes, so watch the notice boards for the date in May.
Here is some of our guests at our first ABMT, held in May 2012:

If you are leaving books, please make sure that they are in reasonable condition. Old, smelly, torn books that are past their usable life only cause us a hassle as we have to throw them away, and it makes a heavy load for the boys to cart off, as well as upsetting us if we have to throw away books. Please be selective with what is left as donations. We are grateful to receive material that is clean, usable and ready to be shared with all residents.
The listening book collection and the large print books are really building up, and there is quite a bit of choice for those who can no longer comfortably read a conventional book. The DVD collection had tripled and the titles there offer a wonderful variety for those who prefer colour and movement. Games and jigsaws can be your best friend in school holiday time, so come to the Library, look around and take note of what we have to offer.

The lovely shelf donated by Simone now proudly holds the Large Print collection and although in the photo it is a bit sparse, it is now almost filled, thanks to the generosity of the Wyong/ Tuggarah Library service, particularlty the Bateau Bay Branch.  Many thanks to them and to Simone for making this collection possible.

Library Meeting: First Monday of each month in the Community Hall at 2.00pm. All welcome.

Residents Committee News

The new Act is now in place and appears to be working well. The Resident Committee in LLV meets in Executive regularly to discuss concerns that have been brought to them by Homeowners. General meetings are held quarterly, or as needed.
The steps to take if you feel that you have an issue that you wish to be resolved are as follows:
1: Write to the Management, letter in the box by the lower post boxes or email to : office@lakesideleisurevillage.com.au.
2: When you receive a reply from the Management, if you are not satisfied with what is said, you may then contact the Residents Committee and they will endeavour to assist you with further discussions with Management and subsequent advice.

The AGM for the Residents Committee Executive will be held in May and all Homeowners are encouraged to attend that meeting to support the electoral system and to nominate and vote for a team to represent them during the following year. All positions will be vacant and Homeowners should think about being of assistance with this committee.

Your contacts are: Ron Frew (Site 7) Lorraine Munt (Site 10) Jeff Boler. Rhondda Doharty, John Davis, Margaret Hope and Sheila Blackmore. It is with regret we accepted the resignation of Bob Rayner, due to Family responsibilities, but Rhondda was co-opted to fill his place until the AGM elections.

Lakeside Leisure Village Social Bowls News

The AGM of the Social Bowls Club was held in the Barn on 5th February attended by 39 members. A new committee was elected as follows:
President: Rick Farr   Secretary: Bill Ralley   Treasurer: Debbie Farr
Committee:  Jeff Boler, Gary Conway, Max Guthrie, Bob Kirkwood, Doug Munt and Reg Podbury.

A big thank you to the retiring committee for their efforts over the past 12 months.
The new committee will announce the details of this year’s programme including the dates for the championships in the next few weeks.

Thank you to the management for the complete upgrade of the bowling green. A new synthetic surface has been laid and the base has been re-levelled.

Thanks to Bill Hopley, the greenkeeper from Munmorah United Bowlo for his help in marking out the new lines and for his expert advice. The work on the new green has been completed and it is ready for play. The surface had to be rolled for a minimum of twenty hours before it could be played on. Thank you to Max Guthrie, Alan Dyer, Terry Frazer, Jeff Boler, Rick Farr and Bill Ralley for their efforts in cleaning, rolling and watering the green.

Don’t forget that every Tuesday and Thursday we bowl at 8.30AM. Anyone interested in bowling or learning to bowl is most welcome. We have a new coach this year in Bob Kirkwood. Bob has a lot of experience as a bowler and as a coach and it’s as easy as calling him on 0414273745 to arrange a session.

Every Friday evening we have twilight bowls at 4PM. We play around 8 or 9 easy ends (about an hour) and then enjoy a few drinks and nibbles and a barbecue (BYO). Everyone is welcome to come down and bowl and socialise or just socialise.

Scroungers day is on the last Sunday of every month weather permitting. The start time is 9AM. Be there by 8:45 so that the matches can be organised. All are welcome to come along and enjoy this fun day. BYO lunch and drinks.   The list is on the board in the week leading up to the day so put your name on it so that we know how many will be playing on the day.

Good Bowling to All,

Rick Farr,
President, Site 270
Social Club News

Hello everyone we hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

The Christmas cabaret was really great and every one had a wonderful time.  Its a pity that it was the last of the cabarets as all the cast have retired, so we would like to thank Eve for all the work she has put into it and to all the cast for all the great shows that they gave us we will really miss you all.

What we would like you all to think about is that we need for people to step up and take over the social club because most of us will not be running for positions at the end of May.  Surely there must some residents who could take over the running of the Social club we would assist you in any way that we could.

The Australia Day celebrations went off very well and we would like to thank Sue Mac Phearson for making  the cake as the  baker from Woolworths was on holidays but we all thought Sue's cake was better so thanks again Sue.

The Trivia will be starting on the fourth Tuesday of the month it only cost $1 so come along and have a bit of a laugh and test your general knowledge.  The tables are made of up to eight people so if you are by yourself I'm sure we could find you other people to sit with. The money raised all goes to the winning table so the more people we get the more you can win, afternoon tea is supplied.

We would like to thank the residents who took the time to come to the last general meeting.  We would love to see more of you at the next one.

The BBQ's are going well they are on  the first Sunday of the month and were else could you get a hamburger with a meat patty, bacon, pineapple, onion, egg and salad and chips for $5.50, we have a chocolate wheel and all the winnings are shared between first second and third it only cost a $1 a time. Some of the people play darts, some play pool there is also table tennis and the indoor bowling mat is there for anyone to use the bowls and the rules are in the cupboard. So come along and have a good feed and enjoyable company.

That's about all from the social club so please think about coming onto the committee.

Thank You from Suzanne Dyer
President of the social Club

Water Aerobics

Reports from Rondda about her water aerobics tell us that there have been many new participants, and both men and women are joining in, getting fit and having a ball.

It certainly looks and sounds like they are all having a great time when you pass by the pool!

If you are interested in joining call Rhondda or just come along and join in.

Water aerobics are held on Tuesdays and Fridays, commencing at 10am.

*NOTE:  Water aerobics will be on the event calander for the next 3 months, I am sure Rondda will let everyone know when it is getting to cold and when it will stop for the cooler months.

An Invitation from Bob,
.
Would anyone in the village be interested in forming a group that would like to travel together.

As a single I find it very hard to find cruises and trips that are suitable, beside the extra cost for singles, it is not very exciting on your own.

This group would not be for singles, as anyone wanting to trip away would be welcome.   My ideas centre around cruising, bus trips, train travel, hiring drive yourself campers, or flights.

If you are interested you can phone BOB on 0414273745 or call in to site 244.

Hook, Line and Sinker

We have just had a great weekend away at Crowdy Head.  The weather was fantastic and the fish were aplenty!!  The weekend was organised by the Munmorah Fishing Club for it's members.  We have great weekends away for our members, and plenty of other activities apart from fishing, with a dinner at Swansea Workers Club taking place on the 9th April, 2016 free for all current members.

Our weigh in prior to this weekend was also a great success with over 100 fish going-over the scales with an average on 1.5kg per fish..  We had some great fish, Kingy's, Snapper and other mixed fish, even a very ugly looking 8.5kg cuttlefish.

This is a few of our angler's catch last weekend..

Our fish came from the Ocean, off the beach and from our Estuary's..

Catch a good one!!
Di
