11th Australasian Plant Conservation Conference (APCC11) 2016 - update 
'New Approaches to Plant Conservation Challenges in the Modern World'.
Conference sub-themes have been announced:
  • Assisted colonization as a practical tool for climate change mitigation.
  • Conservation for people and nature: how do we maximise the benefits for both.
  • Rethinking landscape restoration: seed production, provenance, conservation planning.
  • Holistic conservation - the role of mutualisms in ensuring functional ecosystem recovery (pollinators, soils).
  • Rescuing small populations from extinction.
  • New challenges and emerging ideas.
Registrations are due to open in May 2016. Registration fees and the Call for Abstracts will be announced soon. Click here for further information.

Volunteer Opportunity!
Do you live in or near Canberra? Are you looking for some volunteer work while studying, looking for a job or during retirement? A volunteer position at the ANPC's National Office is now available one day a week on Thursdays from 10am to 2pm. For more information or to express your interest, please email here. The National Office is based at the Australian National Botanic Gardens which is a great place to work. ANPC volunteers also receive a free parking permit for the Gardens and free ANPC membership for one year!

Eucalypt Symposium ' Conserving Eucalypts - the why and the how' - 18 March 2016
The Bjarne K Dahl Trust and the Royal Society of Victoria present a one day symposium highlighting eucalypt diversity and conservation. Providing scientific insights to the future of Australian forests, woodlands and biota, "Conserving Eucalypts" will engage scientists, forest managers and anyone interested in the response of eucalypt forests and woodlands to environmental threats in the 21st century. Featuring presentations by leading researchers in forest ecology, the biosciences, and environmental and resource management. Register here.

12th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai - Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 February 2016
Canberra Bonsai Society and the Australian National Botanic Gardens are pleased to present the 12th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai which will include over 30 bonsai created by both Canberra-based and interstate bonsai artists. The exhibition will showcase the breadth and diversity of the use of Australian plants in the art of bonsai. Click here for more information. New at the ANBG - Aboriginal Plant Use Trail
This new trail was launched in January at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Check it out next time you are in Canberra. Starting beyond the cafe, follow the trail marked on the map to discover a selection of plants used by Aboriginal people in different parts of Australia. Click here to download the brochure.
