Gwartney's in Uganda

Praying for Ugandan Elections

Ugandans go to the polls today - and 3 more times in the next 3 weeks, but that's another issue. Today Uganda will elect it's next president and parliament.  The current president, Yoweri Museveni, has been in power for 30 years.  He is running again as there are no term limits in Uganda.  The main opposition candidate is running against Museveni for the fourth time.  Tension is in the air as each election draws more support for the opposition and more scrutiny from outside observers.

The outcome will likely be contested regardless of the vote count. American democracy has a history of over 200 years; Ugandan democracy's history is about 20 years. We are grateful that we live in a rural area, where we aren't likely to encounter rallies or riots, if those events should occur. Election results are to be announced on Saturday. GSF has made basic preparations and we are restricting movements to town. Please join us and our Ugandan staff in praying for Uganda during this critical time!

Back to School

Students waiting at GSF kitchen for lunch.
As soon as the presidential elections are over, school begins for students all across Uganda.  Please be in prayer as our GSF kids from preschool to University go back to school on Monday. Here are ways to pray:
  • Pray for safety for those who have to travel to their boarding school as unrest still could be possible.
  • Pray for those starting a new school from our toddlers starting preschool to the those enrolled in new secondary/high schools, vocational schools or university. Pray that they would be encouraged and blessed with strong Christian friends.
  • Pray for the GSF primary school as our headmaster desires to integrate the Bible in every aspect.
Thank you for your prayers for our students!

Sharon update

The first picture we had of Sharon.  Her T-shirt in many ways depicts her life!
Thank you for your continued prayer for Sharon!  God is bringing His amazing healing touch in this young lady's life.  We praise God!  All the reports are that Sharon is improving every day and so far there is no sign of any brain damage following the complicated heart surgery procedures.  The hospital hopes to release her in a few days.
Please continue to pray for Sharon!
