A Regional Water Alliance
WBBROC is taking a broader approach to water and has adopted “Water Security and Allocation” as one of its regional priorities. Yes, Councils will still concentrate much of their time and resources on providing a water supply to towns and villages, as well as securing enough water for the community in years to come. However, the economic development potential of water is also recognised.
Water enables the opening up and expansion of our agricultural industry. This in turn, helps to create more jobs. So all aspects of water are important, and the various needs have to be balanced.
To deal with all these issues, WBBROC has agreed to start work on establishing a regional Water Alliance for the Wide Bay Burnett. This will be need to be confirmed by the new WBBROC after the Local Government Elections, but members should then have more detailed information to help them make further decisions on this important issue.

A Heavy Vehicle Field Day
Trucks and heavy vehicles have evolved a great deal over recent years. They have so many more safety features and are so much more manoeuvrable than they were in the past.
Together with NHVR, the heavy vehicle regulator, WBBROC is planning to hold a Field Day in the region to showcase the capabilities of heavy vehicles, so that Councillors and Council officers will be much better informed. People from the industry, Local Members of Parliament, Ministers and TMR officials will also be invited. In many cases, heavy vehicle businesses have to seek a permit to bring particularly heavy vehicles into or through towns, so a field day will provide an opportunity for educating all involved. It is hoped that this will lead to easier and quicker permit approvals, as businesses and the economy of the region depend on these vehicles moving produce, products and livestock.

Aligning our Work in the Region
The Regional Roads and Transport Group (RRTG) and WBBROC have a number of members in common, but in recent years, meetings have been held a few weeks apart. To help these two important regional organisations look at regional issues with similar eyes, it has been agreed that WBBROC and the RRTG should go back to meeting on the same day. This will also make it easier for Mayors to attend both meetings.
Both the Department of Transport and Main Roads and the RRTG will also have a representative attending WBBROC meetings to help keep everyone involved in the two groups fully informed of the key issues affecting the region.
