AHCMC and StonebridgeCarras Announce Selection of Master Artist for Wheaton Redevelopment Project
The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC) is pleased to announce the selection of award-winning artist Norie Sato for the new Wheaton Town Square and County office building in the Wheaton Triangle.  StonebridgeCarras, developer of the project on behalf of Montgomery County, has contracted Sato to create a concept for public art that integrates local artists and arts organizations into the process.

“StonebridgeCarras is excited about the selection of Norie Sato as the Artist for the Wheaton redevelopment.  We look forward to working with Norie as the art is realized and enhances this important civic project,” says Jane Galbraith Mahaffie of StonebridgeCarras. The Town Square portion of the project will include Sato’s commissioned artwork, as well as pedestrian spaces, an amphitheater, a water feature, and a stage for performances.

On February 17, I was thrilled to attend Maryland Arts Day alongside over 400 Arts Advocates from around the state to advocate for the Governor's proposal of $20.3M for the arts! Many attended and we were honored to be able to speak with many state legislators including: Senators Lee and Kagan; Delegates Carr, Gilchrest, Gutierrez, Korman, Luedtke, Miller and Smith and staff for Senator Kelly and Robinson.

We were fortunate too, that Carol Trawick, one of the State's most generous arts philanthropists and Chair of the Maryland State Arts Council, also came to our delegation room to thank the legislators for their past support and to ask for support of the Governor's proposed budget for the arts.

I encourage you to reach out to these legislators and thank them for their past support of the arts in Maryland. Ask them for their continued support of the arts by supporting the governor's proposed $20.3M budget. By doing so, you will be deeply in our debt by rendering a great service of advocacy, not just for our County, but for our entire state!

Best,

Suzan Jenkins,
AHCMC CEO
