Read my updated blog post, One Right Way? Nah! where I share my thoughts on organizers who present THEIR way as the ONLY way, and let me know what you think.
Ask the Organizer!

Q:  I never file my taxes on time because the documents are...well, I don't know WHERE they are. How can I fix that?

A:
Since we all know death and taxes are two things we can't avoid, we might as well deal with taxes now, since April 15th is looming in the not too distant future.

Make a file labeled "Tax Records" or "Current Year Taxes" (no need to re-label each year). Drop documents in as they arrive: donation receipts, investment records, W-2s, property taxes - whatever applies to your tax situation - and voila! It's all in one place. If it's too late to be organized THIS year, make it a goal to do things differently for next year.

And just so you know, filing an extension is only an extension to FILE, not to PAY if you owe.

Submit your questions to me via email: jamie@homesolutionswny.com with "Ask the Organizer" in the subject line. I'll choose one reader's question to feature in each newsletter.
Have you ever stopped for gas, only to discover that it's ten cents cheaper down the street? Well, there's an app for that!

Click the Gas Buddy icon to check it out. You can share gas price information with others via this app, too.

Mark your calendars, I'll be speaking at the main stage of the Buffalo Home and Garden Show in March. Watch for details, but here are my dates and times. I'd love to see you there!
  • Saturday March 5th @ 12:00 pm
  • Sunday March 6th @ 2:00 pm
Space-Saving Tip: I used a decorative box to create a functional "junk drawer" on our kitchen table. I even stuck a small basket inside for napkins. It was less than $10 and it matches our decor. I especially like that the lid is attached.

Time-SavingTip: I've used the safety pin method, but I think this straw method might be even easier! Click the image for a quick video demonstration.
