Changes to WA's Strata Titles Act

Further to last month's segment about proposed changes to negative gearing, we'd like to keep you informed of the Strata Titles reforms currently being drafted by Landgate.

The Minister for Lands has announced Cabinet’s approval to draft the proposed amendments to the Strata Titles Act 1985 following their consideration of Landgate’s recommended reforms.

The five areas of reform are as follows:-
  • New forms of strata: community title and leasehold strata, and improved staging of strata developments
  • Buyer information and protection
  • Resolving strata disputes
  • Management of strata schemes
  • Termination of strata schemes
The reforms are not about changing what people own under existing strata lot titles and boundaries.  They are more about improving the experience of buying, working and living in shared community environments.

According to Landgate, resolving strata disputes will be simpler and faster and strata management will be improved.

Information about strata titles will be in a more user-friendly format and will provide owners with the ability to have more say in their current schemes.

Landgate has provided this video as a great overview of the proposed strata reforms.

Shane Weinman - Commercial, Business & Farm Sales

Shane is the newest member of the Focus West team and is based in the south-west.  Shane specialises in business sales, commercial sales, commercial leasing and farm sales.
Shane, what were you doing before entering this industry?
I am a qualified accountant and have been operating my accounting firm in Busselton for many years.

How long have you been selling real estate and businesses in the south-west?
I have only just commenced in business sales and commercial real estate sales.  In my accounting business, I enjoy working out the numbers for clients' businesses as well as their individual portfolios and I see real estate sales as a natural extension to the services I offer.

What are the top three things that separate you from the competition?
My differences are simple.  I'm:-
  • extremely professional
  • non pushy
  • a quiet achiever
What would you be doing if you weren't selling real estate?
Tax and accounting were my first loves in business and I would continue to do this if I wasn't selling real estate.

What else can you tell us about yourself?
I'm a passionate West Coast Eagles supporter, I love tennis, the beach, fishing, camping, wining and dining.

I love Dunsborough and the South West and I am looking forward to helping more people in this area to find their perfect property, farm or business.

If you would like to talk to Shane about your rural or business requirements, please call him on 0427 812 524.  He's always happy to chat and discuss how he can help.
