Community M.A.D. (Make A Difference) is a satellite group of Bookham and Horsley Rotary Club. This is a new venture to allow people with a heart for service to the community to be part of the Rotary movement without some of the time commitments and expense of traditional Rotary meetings.
This like-minded group, supported by members of Bookham and Horsley Rotary, has already been making its mark! See us on Facebook too.

Having fun at the 'Play in a Week' Quiz

Coming up - would YOU like to be part of it?
Marie Curie Fields of Hope - an opportunity to dedicate and/or plant daffodil bulbs in memory of someone lost to cancer or in support of loved ones who are fighting cancer.
Helping the charity 'Re-cycle' by collecting unwanted but good condition bicycles from our area and taking them to the collection point at Halfords in New Malden, from which they will be refurbished and sent to Africa. "A bicycle lightens this burden and dramatically improves their wellbeing as well as work and education opportunities helping to bring social change"
Fit & Wellness Fair

This new and exciting community event will take place on 23rd April at the Old Barn Hall in Bookham. We want to encourage people to take action to improve their and their family's health and fitness and adopt a healthier lifestyle, and to show them that all the help, support and facilities they need are available locally. A local gym is offering a free day pass (worth £25) to each person or family attending the fair!

STOP PRESS!!
Last Friday Bookham & Horsley Rotary held a Bridge Evening at the Barn Hall for over 100 players, with a hot meal provided by Conisbee's butchers and ably served by members of Bookham and Horsley Inner Wheel. From the buzz on the evening and comments afterwards, everyone seems to have had a great time, with some lucky punters taking away an excellent raffle prize (many thanks to Layton's greengrocers and The Vineries here!)

The key message, though, is that this fun event has raised around £1,200 for Rotary and Inner Wheel to use in supporting local people and causes
Remember the Christmas Collectors?
Did you visit Waitrose or Sainsbury's before Christmas? Walk down Bookham High Street? Visit the Cobham M25 Services? If so, you may have seen a couple of people in bright yellow vests holding a collection bucket. If you are one of the many who put something in , THANK YOU!
This annual collection, together with Santa's Sleigh which visits many parts of Bookham, Effingham and the Horsleys, raised £3,500 for local charities and those in need at Christmas.

Perhaps this extract from a letter we received after Christmas explains why this effort is so important

If you would like to help with this collection this coming Christmas, please contact Ken Picknell.
Singing for their Supper
On Friday April 8th, 7 for 7.30pm, we will be hosting the Weybridge Male Voice Choir and well-known harpist Margaret Watson for a wonderful evening of music making in the Old Barn Hall. This promises to be a superb evening, helped along with wine, coffee and light refreshments all for the ridiculously low sum of £15 per head.
Proceeds of the event will go to local charity Kids for Kids, founded by Patricia Parker MBE, who will be present at the event. This is what Kids for Kids is all about :

KIDS FOR KIDS helps children the world has forgotten, children in Darfur, Sudan, who live lives of inexcusable and unimaginable hardship. Kids for Kids adopts whole villages, lifting them out of abject poverty.  Because in Darfur children are dying.  We are different, because our projects are what people tell us will help them the most. We are enabling families to stay together, in their own homes. Kids for Kids transforms the lives of individuals and whole communities – but we desperately need your help.
