In The News

5 years and growing!

Over the last five years, nearly 100,000 grant dollars have funded 14 environmental organizations, making a difference both in our local and global communities, people, and world around us.

We move into this year with an updated look, a new website, and a continued effort to make an impact with environmental issues.

Updates

The folks at Bangor Land Trust in Bangor, ME have been busy building a safe and sturdy bridge over a stream on a popular trail in North Penjajawoc Forest, kiosks at the trailheads on this preserve, and signs along the trails with a $2500 grant from the Foundation.
"North Penjajawoc Forest is a 100+ acre tract with many miles that have been well used by generations of Bangorians. We are delighted to have been able to repair the bridge and look forward to having kiosks with maps, educational materials, and usage guidelines. This is a significant addition to Bangor's wonderful Wild Back Yard.

Volunteers came forward from both Bangor Land Trust and the mountain biking community to replace the old and hazardous bridge in the Forest with something sturdier and safer. One of our volunteers also created a new kiosk design that is lighter and stands on one leg only, making it much easier to carry in over a mile of trail and install. We have installed two, one along the old Veazie RR bed and one where a trail goes from the Bangor City Forest into North Penjajawoc Forest Preserve. A third kiosk is waiting for a small marsh to be well frozen so that it can be carried in over the snow along the Emera transmission corridor to the southwestern preserve entrance."
