Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped...
—Philippians 2:5-6
MISSION STATEMENT
Heritage School provides a distinctive classical Christ-centered education that prepares students for servant leadership and lives that glorify God.

Early Appointment!

It’s that time of year when all of our seniors are waiting to get that packet in the mail from the school of their choice, maybe dreams, telling them they have been accepted and that, yes, the university will take their money.  It’s a stressful time – a lot more stressful than when many of us were waiting to hear.  The competition is fierce for the top tier schools,  >>Continue Reading

U.S. Representative Lamar Smith, who nominated Sean to West Point, will be on campus Monday, February 22 at 2:00 pm, to congratulate Sean and share a few words with the upper school. The upper school will gather in Herzog Hall at 2:00pm and we encourage all who can to attend to come and support Sean.

NEW DUAL CREDIT PARTNERSHIP IS ON !

The faculty and administration is very excited to announce that the registrar of Colorado Christian University has approved three Rhetoric School courses for CCU dual credit. Students currently enrolled in Rhetoric/Senior Thesis,  British Literature, and American Literature can receive 3 hours of CCU college credit for each course completed with a grade of 'C' or better. Two more courses are slated for approval for next year bringing the total potential dual credits per Heritage grad to 15, the equivalent of one semester of college credit.

Mrs. Hierholzer and Mr. Turpin were the first to be approved to teach these initial three college level courses on the merits of their formal education level and otherwise excellent credentials. Mrs. Sauer managed a bit of back and forth communication concerning the documentation of the courses' content, pedagogy, and assessment rubrics. But ultimately, our courses passed muster on their own merits. Yes, just as we thought, Heritage has been teaching honors college prep courses all along!

We are awaiting final online access codes and instructions from CCU which will allow our seniors and juniors to register for these dual credits (for the courses they are already taking). The cost to each student will be just $200 per course, paid online with a parent's credit card. No separate application forms or fees are required by CCU. $3000 for a whole semester of transferable college credit is quite a bargain. God continues to bless Heritage School most abundantly.

Reminder:  Monday is Presidents' Day.
Enjoy your long weekend!

Surprise!  It's Spring Fling!

Mark your calendars:  Spring Fling is Friday, May 13th.  That's right, you read that right!  We will continue to have a Spring Fling field day each year, however the element of surprise is going away.  We know that this slight change will only improve the event.

Matthew Franek is the Chairperson of the event this year.  He is calling all interested volunteers to work different stations throughout the day.  Please contact him directly if you are able to be here that day.  matthewfranek@hotmail.com or 512-709-3424.

Stay tuned for further information.

Whistle Pik Gallery Highlights

Friday night, February 5th, the Whistle Pik Gallery on Main Street hosted young High School artists from Fredericksburg and Harper in their treasure-filled rooms.  Pictured here are Dylan Sione with his altered book diptych Byzantine Ikon of an angel, Harleigh Klepac with her Ikon of St. George Fighting the Dragon, as well as Amy Lucas, Kate McComack-Morris, and Lilly Mills with their Ikons. The Heritage students are standing in front of Phil Bob Borman’s storm-filled sky oil painting.  It was a night of sharing art with both new friends and old, surrounded by magnificent art from around the world, including Norman Rockwell and Porfirio Salinas originals.  If you were unable to attend, the Heritage students’ art will continue to be on display at Whistle Pik until Monday morning, February 15th. From the desk of Coach Given:

Two of our logic students Josh Hoermann and Colin Fairchild deserve an honorable mention for performance in the CALSA Tournament.  Hoermann dropped a shot to end a quarter from behind half court and Fairchild shot a game saving 3 pointer to take us ahead with less than 10 seconds to go in the game.  Playing three consecutive basketball games our boys showed hupomone and arête.

Jinn Khuc and Taylor Watterson submitted the winning poster for the district basketball game.

Congratulations on the winning night against San Marcos Hill Country on Tuesday night.  All four teams won.

Way to go Eagles!

Early College Credit Registration Open for Spring

Central Texas College has opened its registration portal for Summer Classes. You should start the online application process at:   http://www.ctcd.edu/students/prospective-students/how-to-enroll/texas-students/   Complete the one-time online application to CTC, track down your SAT scores and make an appointment with Kristy Kothe at the Hill Country University Center (254-616-3401) You must be a junior or senior to register and are limited to two courses per semester.
More independent souls may find the ONLINE early college offerings at LeTourneau University more suitable: http://www.letu.edu/_Admissions/dualcredit/  Although LETU online students do not have designated online class times, they do have weekly deadlines for graded work. LETU courses cost about $360 each.
Early college credit not only saves thousands of tuition dollars ($328/course at CTC  compared to $950 at A&M and $3636 at Baylor), the gift of time and flexibility in your future college schedule can be more advantageous in pursuing a minor or double major. Also, the seniority attained by early college credit can make a huge difference at freshman registration. Of course, early college credits afford little advantage at all if your chosen major degree plan does not call for those courses or your target college does not accept the transfer. Mrs. Sauer can help you find that information and help you make a plan.

Heritage Student and Alumni Honors and Accolades

Lane Pressler
Lane Pressler was selected by the Texas Section of the Society for Range Management to participate in the High School Forum, an SRM sponsored youth activity held jointly during the 69th Annual SRM annual meeting.  This year’s meeting theme was “Rangelands and Wildlife”.

The SRM is an international organization that strives to promote public awareness of the importance of sound management and use of rangeland.  High School delegates are chosen by each of the 21 individual sections throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, based on their high degree of interest in the range and natural resources field as well as on their exemplary dedication and effort to learn more about a particular area.  Goals of the HSYF include providing insight for these students concerning the function and working of the Society and an opportunity to learn about range management and future careers through interaction with both professionals and current university students.  As one of the more important activities, each delegate to the Forum competes in a paper presentation competition with the content covering a range-related topics.  Lane presented his topic “What a Cow Patti Can Tell You” placing, 2nd at the 2016 meeting.
