 Matthew 5:1-16

Sunday we begin on a journey toward Easter walking through the beatitudes.  The text is Matthew 5:1-16.  Question to consider while reading the text:  What does it mean to be 'poor in spirit?'  Is this the first step to experiencing life in Jesus?  Did Jesus demonstrate being poor in spirit?  How?

Jesus at the Sermon on the Mount

In Christ - Pastor Mark

The celebration service of Janet Huisjen will be held at Crestview Church on Thursday, February 18th, 4:00pm.  A celebration reception will be held at the Millennium Harvest Hotel.  May the God of Peace and the Peace of God be with the Huisjen family.  "Let your gentleness be evident to all.  The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:5-7.

Janet's obituary can be found here

Reception following the service will be at the Millennium Harvest House at 1345 28th St., Boulder

As I write this, people have been taking advantage of the invitation to some prayer time in the sanctuary for Ash Wednesday.  It is difficult to slow down and make prayer and space for God in our daily life.  I told someone this week a quote from a mentor to pastors, "The word 'busy' before pastor is like the word 'adultery' before marriage."  I wonder if that kind of warning shouldn't be extended to all of us in general.  Watch out for 'busy'.  John Ortberg once asked of his spiritual mentor, “What do I need to do to be spiritually healthy?  “You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.”  He writes it down, “OK that’s a good one, now what else is there?”  And he repeated himself, “You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.”  “Alright, what else should I also do?”  Pause... “There is nothing else.”

We are in the midst of some restoring and remodeling in both the church and the madison house.  Take a look at these pictures and take a real look for yourselves sometime soon.  The main church office will be located in the Northwest corner of the building and worship office in the back of the sanctuary.  A set of doors are going in between the Gathering and Fellowship room for additional noise barrier for more separate meeting space.  The Madison house is getting a facelift to make ready for a Quist home.  Thank you all for making these remodeling measures possible!  These are great modifications to facilitate ministry at Crestview Church.  (While physical remodeling is ongoing - lets ask God to remodel and restore our hearts at the same time - a perfect Lenten theme!)

Children's Sunday School 10:15 am
Sunday School this year has been focusing on characters of the Old Testament. Ruth and Jackie have come up with a plan to help Crestview Children learn more in-depth about these characters.  This Sunday, we will be talking about Josiah, and how he is part of God's great big plan.

After the Sunday sermon, please get your coffee and join Mark in the Fellowship Hall Library for a time of reflection and "unpacking" the sermon.

Crestview Memory Verses
"that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ,"   Philippians 3:9a

During the first four months of 2016 our fellowship is committing Philippians 3:7-11 to memory. This week, try to memorize the first part of verse 9.

Philippians 3:7-9a What was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ,
