Happy Galentine's (Valentine's) Day! In this edition, we share our own VDay card with you, some throwback cards, and news you don't want to miss out on.

Prior to passage of the 19^th Amendment, suffragists used holidays like Valentine’s Day to promote the cause of “Votes for Women.” The National Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) (now known as the League of Women Voters) even created its own suffrage postcards!

Laws written by men to protect women deserve scrutiny
History holds a lesson for the Supreme Court. In a "friend of the court" brief submitted to the Court: Be skeptical of laws protecting women that are written by men. “Any new law that claims to protect women’s health and safety should be scrutinized carefully to assess whether its ostensibly protective function actually serves to deny liberty and equal citizenship to women,” said the brief filed by 16 historians, 13 of whom are women.
