WHAT'S HAPPENING AT EXCEED...

Casa del Valle Residential Facility Happenings...

The clients found a new animal shelter to visit near Idyllwild called Living Free Animal Sanctuary and it was well stocked with cats. All enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.

Then it was off to an afternoon in the snow. Unfortunately, we didn't capture the snowball fight on film, but they had fun snow-bombing each other and the staff!

Santa Fe (Hemet) ADC Happenings...

Our Hemet ADC clients had a great December. This month Our ADC clients started this year off just right. This month, clients attended the Golden Era Golf Club Clinic put on by Inland Empire PossAbilities volunteers. They enjoyed golfing with their coaches and had a delicious lunch afterwards.

Another outing took them to Valle Vista Library where they did some research on animals of the ice and snow. These animals were the theme for January and clients enjoyed looking at and researching polar bears, owls, dogs, and seals. Each supervisor chose a snow animal to decorate on their boards.

The clients also helped again to make a spaghetti and meatball meal for clients and staff.

Santa Fe (Hemet) WAC Happenings...

The Hemet WAC continues to work on sorting and packaging contracts as well as the usual stuffing, labeling, and packaging jobs. Along with the regular contracts from a window company, a packaging company, a label company, and a local city department, we have continued the momentum of the year end and have been busy throughout the month. Everyone seemed to enjoy the holiday season but it feels as though staying focused and keeping busy with our regular schedules is what is on everyone’s minds this month.

Next month will be our Annual Awards Luncheon and clients have been discussing their nominees and gearing up for the big event.

Perris ADC Happenings...

The month of January has been a fun month for the Perris ADC. We have a new theme of the month "Everyday Heroes" which the clients really seem to love. They have discussed what it means to be a hero as well as who their heroes are.

We have taken field trips to some animal shelters for community service as well as to see some animal heroes as well. We have also visited some veteran's memorials while keeping with the discussion of heroes.

In February we will be touring a sheriff's station with the Sergeant being our tour guide. Then we will head over to the fire station for a tour. This has turned out to be quite the fun theme for all of us here.

Perris WAC Happenings...

In Perris we have started the new year off with a great amount of work and some pretty good pay checks for our clients.  We are hoping that this is a sign of how this year will be going.  The clients spent over 88% of their time working, and still found time to celebrate the new year and have their client council meetings.   Client council has started the process of electing new officers, and the campaigning begins.  This is always an exciting time for the shop and a time where we get to see the creativity of the candidates.

The clients were also provided with two Pre-Employment Skills Trainings from EXCEED's Supported Employment Department.  They covered "interviewing techniques" and  "Keeping the Job". The trainings are encouraged for the clients who are close to being ready for Supported Employment and we have 20-25 clients who attend them regularly.    We had two clients accept community placements in December and one in January.  The program is very serious about providing the training and supports the clients will need to get and keep a job in the community.

Going forward, we have a couple of major projects for February and a brand new job we will be starting.   The Perris WAC continues to be an exciting and productive place to work and learn.

Supported Employment Happenings...

There were 4 IRC clients that started working this month. Two of those placed are individuals making between $12-$14 per hour and 2 were placed in a group.

Average IP wage is $12.17
Average Group wage is $6.24

We received information from Kenny Goode that he has won 23 gold medals in the Special Olympics in the sports of soccer and basketball. This is quite an accomplishment, as he reminds us that Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps only has 22! He is very proud of his hard work and we are excited that this true athlete is a part of our SE team. Kenny says that he will definitely be a part of the next Special Olympics as well.

We also want to recognize Brian Inglis on his hard work and dedication. He started out at AutoZone last October. Since then he has had the opportunity to work in many different positions and gave 100% in each. Recently AutoZone approached us and informed us that they would like to hire Brian on as part of their team! He is now officially an AutoZoner!!!!
