UofN Empowering Asia

This year started off with a BANG! Aleck was off to India where he helped run a UofN equipping event in India - a conference that equips and encourages people who are working in the University of the Nations to better enable them to fulfil their callings. Over 70 missionaries met for the week-long event in January. Aleck ran seminars with over 20 people. He taught on communication and leading schools as well as helped to facilitate and M.C. the corporate meetings with the rest of the resource team. The desire for communication skills in India is strong, and people are eager to learn.

On the way back, Aleck misread his ticket and as a result missed his flight home. We had to repurchase his ticket (which cost the same as his original return flight). The silver lining was that he was able to spend a few extra days in India with some friends and ended up having a really great time. Thanks Tim and Seuen!!

Family

As a family we are doing well. Micah is playing football and this is a highlight for him each week. Mya is both anxious and eager for September as she is looking forward to going to High School but nervous about having to make new friends and leaving her present primary school. We will know by the end of May which school she will get into. We just had parent/teacher meetings and both of our children received favourable reports. They continue to be a joy to us and those around them.

Donna-Rae is juggling many responsibilities…..being a mom and a wife, and looking after the home and doing projects around the house; working at our church’s coffee shop one day a week as a form of outreach; and continuing her work with the UofN the rest of the time, helping people graduate with their degrees and also advising students on how to get degrees in Communication. She is busy, and sometimes feels overwhelmed, but enjoys what she does - which is the main thing.

Work and Study

Aleck is doing well with his Masters. He will attend his next intensive in Burtigny, Switzerland with the rest of the Masters Cohort and is looking forward to that. He has had to read lots of books and post comments and assignments online every week. This can be a time pressure especially as it goes on alongside all of the rest of the work he is doing in the College of Communication as well as teaching and training engagements. He is enjoying the study though and getting a lot out of the work… Much of it is deeper though not necessarily new, almost like a spiral staircase where you may be at the same point of deja vu but just at a higher elevation. If he takes on teaching or is attending meetings, he will usually need to work ahead and study more before those engagements, so it does take some time management and organisation but he is doing Ok so far. March will be the real test as he has a few weeks of meetings at the UofN campus in Kona, Hawaii.

The Next Few Months At A Glance

We will not be doing as much travelling now that Aleck has started his Masters degree. He will do shorter trips to teach (under three weeks) etc, but we don’t foresee any big trips for 3 months or more for awhile as a family. So this will be a new season for us, and will take some getting used to. The kids are quite disappointed to not be travelling together as much as we used to, as it was fun…

But for now, the next few months looks like this:

- February - Aleck goes to Switzerland for his next Masters Intensive. These happen every 3 months for about 2-3 weeks throughout the next two years.

- March - Aleck and Donna-Rae both go to Kona for university meetings for a two weeks.

- Aleck will be teaching in France on a Street Art School and has other teaching in Australia and England and America as well as a few other places later in the year...

Prayer Requests

1. Aleck’s Masters studies - that he would learn all that God wants him to learn during this time from a personal point of view as well as in terms of putting together a masters degree for the College of Communication

2. Aleck’s travel for energy and wisdom and refreshment

3. Mya - that she would get into the high school God wants her to be in, and that she would have peace about the transition and making new friends

4. Both kids as they adjust to the new season we are in where Aleck will tend to do a bit more travelling on his own without us.

5. Finances for Aleck’s Masters course and travel to Switzerland every 3 months for the intensives as well as for Leadership Meetings.

6. Meetings in Kona - there is a lot we will be discussing. Please pray for wisdom and clarity and safe travel

7. Donna-Rae - for peace and calm when she feels overwhelmed or stressed, and wisdom to know how to prioritise and balance all she has to do.

Thank you for your prayers and support and encouragement. We are so blessed to have you on this journey that God has called us to. It is so comforting to know you are with us and we hope and pray that you feel apart of what God is doing through us and you.
