DON DILEGO & THE TOURISTAS

2016 Europe Tour, New Single

Damn this is a long one! And I couldn't be more excited. It's been a bit of a long and winding road to get to this point, on the precipice of the release of my new album, Magnificent Ram A. Yes, I know, many of you likely are of the belief that this record is actual a fable...an urban legend...an album whispered about in alleyways and grizzled old theme parks (I don't know what that means either...just stick with me here)...

But it's true, and the first strains of "Drive Like Pirates" are actually being heard on the shores of England, like a Pocono Mountain front porch rally cry! I was excited that the BBC debuted the track last week, and offered it as perhaps "your new favorite song of the week." New, of course, being relevant here, and once a song finally makes it out into the world, the songwriter, me in this case, is plotting the next record already. To which I am guilty. Such a cliche! Nonetheless, as I enter my 13th decade of "trying to make it big", I still get that little boost when someone, anyone, somewhere, plays your song and says, hey...this is good, take a listen. Obviously you hope for there to be hundreds, or thousands of DJs to follow suit, but honestly, sometimes it just takes one to make you feel it was all worth it. At least that's what I'm saying now...ask me after the tour...

Which, holy hell, is going to be amazeballs! Ok, so we have 3 bands bunking in a tour bus for a month, myself, Jesse Malin, and Trapper Schoepp. Jesse has released not one, but TWO damn fine albums in the past year, and he's going out big on the last one, "Outsiders." It was a privilege to be a part of both, getting my greasy producer hands in there where I could do the most damage. I'll be getting to play a lot of these with him on tour, so that'll be a blast. And, and, and, though I have been lucky enough to tour Europe many times on my own, I have not been over there with my very own band, The Touristas. Somehow, I've tricked these guys into believing that some bygone rock glory awaits them across the vast deep and dark Atlantic Ocean. In fact, what awaits them are rest stops and pita bread in the dressing rooms. Nonetheless, onward we march. Erik "Wiley" Olsen will be on bass, old friend Gregg Williams (who himself has had his grubby paws in many of the DD records) will be on drums, and the soon to be sorry Troy Stewart, touring member of the Decembrists and band member of Tired Pony (with Peter Buck) - who will be on guitar, piano, and kitchen sink.

"Drive Like Pirates" will be available on March 25th, and the 10" vinyl release perhaps a bit sooner than that. I am excited that the legendary One Little Indian Records will be releasing this (Bjork, Sigor Ros, Bernice Bros, Clem Snide!, etc), along with the East Village's own Velvet Elk Records. (future legends!) I'm working on the video now and so expect probably more updates from me than usual with the upcoming release. In the meantime, and against what makes any real sense, I just recorded this in my living room. It's a song I just wrote called "Your Great Escape" that has nothing to do with the new record, but I really like it. So it's sitting there free to check out until I freak out and take it back down.

It's been a crazy couple years leading up to this. Produced several records for other great artists, officially and incompetently started Velvet Elk Records with Mr, Malin, toured and toured some more, released another record with my electro-twang evil twin Beautiful Small Machines, and basically kept hoping I would get this new record out properly, somewhere, somehow. Also, and just absolutely crazy, was the passing of my longtime booking agent Amanda Case. She was my absolute biggest supporter, tireless, and often a pain in my arse, but all in the best way. She always kept me believing in myself even when she was getting clubs slamming the door in her face trying to book me. It did not shake her faith in me one bit, and I'll never understand that. But I will always love her for that and the best thing I was able to do with this record is get it to her before she died. She pushed me so hard to finish it. She was a recluse, and she was too long to go, but she was as honest a music believer as they come. And so it goes.

Anyway, for all your continued support and patience and encouragement, thank you.

Now off to pack my bags, DD

Attention Europe - The upcoming "Don is finally Releasing his record" tour is listed below. Please come and welcome the Touristas so they come back with me again next time! I promise that the entire evening of music is going to be incredible, foibles and all.

...more US dates coming soon.

Oh hey, on a side note, my long time music partner Bree Sharp, recently dusted off her old cult hit, "David Duchovny", for which she earned some deserved fame for the illegal amounts of catchiness to that tune. Anyway, with the recent reboot of the X-Files, we decided to give it a reboot of our own and a new twist. A few hours later...
David Duchovny, Why Won't You Love Me (The Reboot). We had fun, Aliens beware.
