We LOVE our donors!

"I’m happy to give to this organization because I know my money is not being spent on overhead; it’s benefiting the kids directly through meals, teachers salary, or school facilities."

We’d like you to meet Tara, friend and donor of Ameena Project since 2011. Tara lives in Washington State with her six-year-old son Sacha, and works for Hewlett Packard.

Q: What inspires you to give?
A: The infographic on the Ameena Project webpage that equates two lattes with 40 meals for a child was a real eye opener for me. After I had my son I became so much more sensitive to how lucky most Americans are, not having to struggle with conflict, or basic needs like water and food.

Q: Why Ameena Project?
A: I think I first “donated” by going online and shopping for toys and books for the school. It was fun and fulfilling to see my contribution in a tangible way. I’m happy to give to this organization because I know my money is not being spent on overhead; it’s benefiting the kids directly through meals, teachers salary, or school facilities.

Q: How has giving changed you?
A: It makes me feel like I should be doing more, especially right now when I see all of the people who are affected by what is happening in the Middle East. It makes me feel a little better to support the work that is done by the Ameena Project.

While our mission is all about the children and families of Kiang’ombe, it is only made possible by you. We want to give you the space to say what Ameena Project means to you. If you’d like to share your story in a future newsletter, let us know!

The Mays heading to Kenya
Next week, Ameena Project co-founders Ian and Anne May will travel to Kenya for quality time at Ameena Centre. There they will hold planning and visioning meetings with the staff, as well as meet with village elders and hold site visits at local public schools in the area. (Lot of hugs and playtime with our adorable preschoolers is also on the agenda!) Be on the lookout for photos and video from their trip in future editions of the newsletter, as well as on Facebook and our website. Please keep Ian and Anne in your thoughts and prayers for safe and expedient travel to and from Kenya!
Payment switch request
We are SO grateful for our recurring givers and we have an ask of you: might you be willing to switch from PayPal – which charges us a fee for every transaction – to automatic giving/withdrawal from your bank account? Most banks offer this feature and we encourage you to establish recurring donations, which is typically free and can be easily setup by paying to: Ameena Project, 12190 SW Butner Rd., Portland, OR 97225. Be sure to include your name as the donor in the memo. If you have any questions please let us know at: email@ameenaproject.org
Playground is a go!
Thanks to you, the Ameena Centre playground is underway! We were touched by the response to our holiday fundraising mailer, and the Kenyan staff is already at work assembling three playground module pieces. If all goes to plan we should be ready to share photos of kids having a blast on their brand new Ameena Centre playground in the next newsletter. If you didn't get the chance to give last year, your donation to our playground campaign would still be warmly welcomed.
