11:00AM- THE BRANCH - SANCTUARY

5:30PM - EMMAUS FELLOWSHIP - FELLOWSHIP HALL/GYM

5:30PM - EVENING WORSHIP - "Redeemed" from TNU

On Sunday morning Marissa Reid and Phillip Stinnett brought Emory Dawn Stinnett for dedication in the Celebration Worship service.  Pictured are Pastor and Karen Ulmet, Phillip and Marissa, Emory, Pastor Matt and Amanda Dunlap.

"REACHING BEYOND INTERNATIONAL" LUNCH  A HUGE SUCCESS - The gym/fellowship hall was full on Sunday, as we enjoyed a delicious H and C lunch prepared by our Haitian Congregation (pictured at right). Over $4,200 was raised in support of the VanMullen Medical Clinic in Haiti. Mark your calendar now for "Happy Fest 2016" on May 14; our theme is "Strengthen Our Local Community, Better Our World."  It will be a memorable family event to celebrate the blessings of cultural diversity in our church and our neighborhood, with proceeds being used to expand our English Language Learners (ELL) programs here that reach out to immigrants and refugees. Praise the Lord for our Haitian congregation leadership (some of whom are pictured at right) and their work through RBI that reaches locally and globally!

Last Saturday a great group of our African Congregation gathered for a membership class, with 14 planning to join our church in the near future. The class was taught with printed material in three languages! To God be the glory for the international church we are becoming.

On Thursday this week, Pastors Ulmet, Jones, and Blackman participated in the Metro Nashville Police & Clergy community meeting held at the West precinct on Charlotte Ave. A large group of community leaders and clergy were present at the informative meeting, building better relationships among law enforcement, churches, and community.

Congratulations to Lorri Mast, selected as Teacher of the Year at Crieve Hall Elementary. Lorri is the daughter of Jan and Eugenia Forman

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE SHALL WE BE?

As I write this, I am hours away from casting an "early vote" in the Presidential Primary in Tennessee.  I have changed my mind as to whom I'm going to vote for three times in less than a week.  So goes politics in America in 2016.

It occurs to me as this seemingly endless and hopelessly raucous process continues to unfold that what we are deciding is not just WHO will "lead" us, but WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE shall we be as Americans over the next few years.

To be sure, there are huge differences among the candidates.  We have everything from openly avowed Socialism to far-right conservatism, and several in-between.  We have a candidate who barks like a dog, and another who has called virtually every people group in America and every opponent by some derogatory name and constantly belittled and condemned.  We have candidates who have openly lied and other candidates who have called their opponents liars while being called a liar.  This is not for the faint-of-heart, to be sure, all the while spending literally hundreds of millions of dollars.

I would suggest you ask yourselves  3 questions as you prepare to vote, if you haven't already:

1. Who best represents your view of your world based on Scripture and will best lead in those values?

2. Who best represents your country and the direction you prayerfully believe it should go in today's world?

3. Who best represents what kind of nation and people you believe we should be?

Leadership matters.  It really does.  A President should best represent a people.  So who are we really, and who do we aspire to be?  Among the limitations of what we have to choose from, let us choose carefully and prayerfully, for we are sending a clear message to the world of just who we are.  Sobering, isn't it?

Blessings!

Pastor Ulmet
