Dear  <<First Name>>

Welcome to the February 2016 edition of your BNI Australia Newsletter.

With Australia Day come and gone, the unofficial national summer-break is officially over. If you, like me, spent much of your break at gatherings with family and friends, I’m sure you agree: together we have more fun and our experiences are richer. I believe that this is true also for work, not just play.

With this in mind I’d like to share with you some handy how-tos and top tips around building a close-knit team that will boost not only your business, but also morale.

Up and at them!

Power-Up Your Contact Sphere

How many people do you know? How many do you do business with? And how many do you have a referral relationship with?

While our contact spheres – those people we know in non-competitive compatible professions; like copywriters working with web developers and designers, for example – may be impressive and plentiful, it’s dangerous to confuse them with power teams.

Why? Because a team is working together towards a common goal.  And that takes committing to a joint approach, keeping engaged – and active involvement by all.

Find out more about how to create your ideal Power Team from BNI founder Dr Ivan Misner.

GOAL! … Why It Takes a Team to Score

No matter what kind of team you work in – in business, within your family or playing your sport – working in close collaboration towards a shared goal is what will determine the fun and success of what you do as a group.

And with technology enabling us to work across geographic distances and time-zones, we are now facing additional challenges when trying to work together efficiently.

Alistair Mitchell, co-founder of cloud-collaboration app Huddle, shares his knowledge in The Art of Keeping Your Team Focused on the Same Goal.

Coopetition: It’s a Win-Win

Today, we live in a time that often glorifies individualism; but as humans we are social animals, and thrive when working together for a collective good.

Coopetition is the collaboration between business competitors, in the expectation of mutually beneficial results: several companies in the same market pool their resources and cooperate with each other to create a higher value than could be achieved if they acted alone.

In his article Profit Through Coopetition BNI Executive Director Paul Lomas explains how coopetition is key to ensuring your BNI chapter grows, thrives and survives.

Putting the ‘Power’ Into Power Teams

You narrowed down your large contact sphere to the small group of people you’d love to form a profitable power team with. But how do you know who’d be the best fit – for you and as a cohesive group?

As Dr Ivan Misner explains in his transcribed podcast Boost Your Referrals With Power Teams, a good way to start filtering and qualifying potential members is to ask these 10 questions.

Are there any you’d add?

Do you collaborate with a power team? How do you tackle geographic and time-difference obstacles in your own teams? What are the strategies you use to strengthen the commitment and ties in your alliances? Please share your thoughts and ideas with us – email social.media@bni.com.au for a chance to see your comments on our Facebook page or blog.

Until soon, in your next BNI newsletter edition.

Warmest regards,

Frederick Marcoux
