Getting to visit my family for Christmas!

By far the biggest and best highlight has been visiting my family for Christmas! Normally us seminarians spend Christmas with our community of brothers and priests. However, this year I was given permission to spend it with my family which was so amazing! This may seem crazy but it was my first Christmas home in 13 years and it was my first time home for 2.5 years since I left to study in Rome and it was also the longest extended home visit I have ever had which allowed me to spend such valuable time with my family. Its hard to write about all that happened when I was home.If I would comment on anything though, I would say that I was able to see how God has taken care of them and me better than I could have ever hoped for.

Every year on the feast of the Presentation of Our Lord (Feb. 2nd) the Church celebrates the vocation of the consecrated life. In reflecting on my own call I made a simple video about an experience of my vocation. You can click the photo to see it.

You may have heard that Pope Francis has named this year a special Jubilee of Mercy. Well for the special opening of the Holy Doors for the Jubilee year yours truly was there in the front to help distribute communion. (You can see Pope Francis behind me in the Photo) If you don't know much about the Jubilee you can find out more HERE. While the theme of Mercy is important for the whole Church, us priests have a special obligation to learn how to meet someone where they are at and tenderly care for them.
