First-time marathon runner supporting The Dream Factory
A first-time marathon runner has already received over £2,000 in sponsorship pledges after he decided to run this year's London Marathon to support The Dream Factory charity which makes dreams come true for children and young adults with life-limiting conditions.
William Locker, 21, from Danbury, near Chelmsford, says his training schedule is going "really well" as be prepares for the 26-mile run through the capital on Sunday, April 24.
William said: "I'm doing three runs a week - Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. I also play football on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings and kick boxing on Tuesdays. I'm pretty active throughout the week so I should be more than ready by April."
William, who trained and qualified as an electrician and works in the family's Chelmsford-based electrical wholesalers BEW, will be running the Brentwood Half-Marathon in March.
He hopes to complete the Virgin London Marathon in under four hours.
William added: "I chose The Dream Factory simply because I believe that what they do is amazing and so heartwarming and I'm so proud to be raising money for such a great cause.
"So far I've raised just over £2,000 which I'm delighted with. From now until the marathon I'll be selling cakes, my mum's homemade curry at work every week to keep adding to the total."
The Dream Factory founder Avril Mills said: "We're delighted that William decided to support us and we wish him all the very best with his training and, of course, on the day itself.
"We rely on many individual supporters who raise money for our charity. Their efforts are vital if we are to continue to be able to make so many dreams come true."
