          The National Apprenticeship Service in partnership with
          employers and training providers are hosting the South
          West apprenticeship challenge which will showcase the talent of
          apprentices in the West of England and let employers see for
          themselves the potential an apprentice can bring to businesses.
          Local employers are invited to come and meet the apprentices in
          action and have the opportunity to see the positive impact they
          have on individuals, businesses and the economy.
  • Bristol Temple Quarter Spatial Framework Public Briefing, 14 March 5 pm - 6 pm. A briefing session about the Bristol Temple Quarter Spatial Framework, a document intended to guide and shape future development in the area.
  • Free Social Enterprise Surgeries (Social Enterprise Works). Are you looking to set-up a social enterprise or community business but don't know where to start? Book onto one of these free surgeries:

  • SME apprenticeship event, 20thApril 10.00 am - 3.00 pm
         This event is for employers, Apprentices, alumni, FE and
         independent private training providers to increase awareness and

Yurt Lush arrives in Clock Tower Yard
10% discount cards available for Engine Shed tenants

Yurt Lush – the popular café, bar and venue from Eat Drink Bristol Fashion - has arrived in Clock Tower Yard, just behind Engine Shed and right next to Boxworks! Having relocated from its former home in Temple Quay, the new and improved venue has expanded and will now be able to cater for up to 100 people.

For 2016, Yurt Lush will become the primary venue for all of Eat Drink Bristol Fashion's schedule of spring and summer events, as the team’s popular tipi festival takes a break from its familiar billing in Queen Square this year.

Yurt Lush will be open on weekdays from 8.00 am until 3 pm for breakfasts and lunch. Starting on 14 March, Yurt Lush are running a new series of themed evenings throughout the week. In addition there will be a new extended weekend brunch until 3.30 pm on Saturdays and 12.00 pm on Sundays.

Visitors to Temple Meads, regulars and of course Engine Shed tenants can enjoy the delicious week day lunch menu and the Yurt Lush Sunday Lunch will be making a welcome return. In addition, from March 14th onwards, a series of new themed evenings will take place throughout the week with Fish Night on Tuesdays, Steak Night on Wednesdays and Curry Night on Thursdays.

And keen to offer a warm neighbourly welcome, a Yurt Lush loyalty card will be available to all Engine Shed tenants, providing a 10% discount.

Save time collecting your coffee & lunch with the Ordable app

You will have seen the table stickers across the business lounge but you may not know that Ordable have launched a new version of their app. You can now order & pay in advance at the business lounge cafe to ensure that your order is ready and waiting for you at the collection point. If you’re meeting someone in the cafe or need a quick coffee on the go, don’t wait around awkwardly in the queue – order ahead on the app!
 
Ordable is a SETsquared company based in Bath but growing into Bristol and London. The founder, Tom Dewhurst, would really appreciate some feedback on the Ordable experience from forward thinking people like you. If you download the app, place an order and reply to his ‘founder email’ with some useful feedback then he has kindly offered to give you the first order for free*. Also, the 10% discount for tenants has been applied to all the prices within the app. Tom is rolling the app out to more venues each week across Bristol so please try it out first and support a local entrepreneur.

Engine Shed has been cited in Tech Nation 2016 report as supporting Bristol’s burgeoning digital sector and helping the West of England become the UK’s most productive tech cluster. 

Entries are now open for Insider's South West International Trade Awards at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel on 19 May. The event will showcase the achievements of the pioneers, the innovators, and the global success stories. The deadline for submissions is 24 March.

Open to everyone to find out about the great tech, creative and low carbon projects happening in Bristol and Bath, from Monday to Friday 8.30 am - 5.30 pm. Free admission.

Current Exhibition - LinkAge's Step Into My Shoes

‘Step into My Shoes’ explores society’s increasing issue of isolation and loneliness in older people.

Almost 5 million consider the television as their main form of company and an estimated 11,000 experience loneliness in Bristol.

The installation highlights LinkAge’s work in local communities and how innovative new ways of working, such as intergenerational activities, can help to tackle this issue.

The exhibition runs until 28 April 2016.

Bristol SETsquared Centre
The SETsquared team is delighted to announce that ‘rising star’ Monika Gierszewska has become the new director of this world-leading business incubator from 1 March, bringing with her a wealth of experience in the technology sector, supporting start-ups and driving innovation. Ultrahaptics and Neighbourly, SETsquared companies residing at Engine Shed, won innovation prize awards at The Edge Awards in February. Congratulations to them!

Virtual member Wriggle are currently raising funds on a Seedrs campaign and are in the over-funding stage now at more than £380K.

Long-standing alumni member, Careflow Connect (formerly Doc Com Solutions) has been acquired by a large healthcare systems company. Congratulations to Jon Shaw & Jon Bloor, read the full story on their website.

A creative and media agency, Boomsatsuma present live music and events and provide creative services in film, illustration and graphic design. They also create and deliver educational programmes and manage an eclectic range of creative projects for public and commercial partners.

Boomsatsuma believe In empowering young people through their education programmes where the company lead the way on industry linked creative media pathways.

Established, independent, design-led, high quality transport planning now operating in the South West region with offices in Bristol and Exeter. Phil Jones Associates (PJA) is an expanding company specialising in integrating transport development planning with placemaking to create great places. Established in 2003, PJA have brought together a creative, committed and highly experienced team capable of delivering large and complex projects, and providing invaluable design and transport planning advice.

Recent good news includes the successful planning appeal by the Homes and Communities Agency on a large residential scheme in Northampton for which Jon Tricker of PJA Bristol provided expert witness advice on highways. PJA will be presenting at the forthcoming RTPI Southwest Urban Design Conference in Taunton on 16 March. Matt McFeat has recently joined the Bristol team as an Associate to further enhance the skills and experience available in the region. 


Social Enterprise Works
A new social value support service available in the West of England.
Social Enterprise Works (SEW) is a Bristol based development agency, providing training, consultancy and practical business advice and support to prospective, newly-formed and established social enterprises and community businesses since 1993. SEW were the first tenants to join the new Boxworks development, with a mission to further mainstream and lead the development of a strong, resilient and thriving social economy and social enterprise sector in the West of England and beyond.

Social Enterprise Works in partnership with the Social Value Business has exclusively launched the Social Value Quality Mark (SVQM) in Bristol and the West of England. The Social Value Quality Mark is the only mark of social value within the UK, as recognised by the UK Cabinet Office, and is awarded to organisations in recognition for their commitment, measurement, reporting and embedding of impact and value. It can be awarded to organisations of any size, in any sector and any legal structure.

Business lounge
Members of our lounge have access to innovation pods and tables on a first come, first served basis for informal meetings and work near to one of the UK's most connected transport hubs, Bristol Temple Meads, free wifi or eduroam connection and use of our cafe. Current membership list is available.

Co-working space in the Saloon Car - open to all

Emergency Cycle Repair Kit at Engine Shed
Engine Shed has all the tools needed for fixing bicycle punctures, even a selection of inner tubes, as well as spare lights, and a lock and cable to borrow in your time of need. Ask Reception for more details.

Parking

The Clock Tower Yard public car park (immediately adjacent to the rear of the Engine Shed) has been permanently closed by the operators. Our two visitor spaces are still available for meetings and hires by booking in advance via Reception. The nearest public carpark is The Friary. Please visit our website for more information on parking and getting to Engine Shed.
